Questions about Apothecaries

By herbie93, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Ok so i'm new to Deathwatch but have played Dark Heresy for a few years,

So i want to ask a general question about Apothecaries and their equipment. The Reductor is placed under the arm, but they never say where the Narthecium goes, is this the back pack or more parts of the forearm gear that they wear?

Secondly, a rules question, it never says any of them take up a hand slot so does this mean you can freely use the hand that the reductor is in? So it is completely within the players right to wield a pistol and sword or bolter two-handed?

I really only ask this because in 40k you never see an Apothecary made with something in the one hand, so i just wanted to make sure i wasnt missing anything.

Thank you for your time,

herbie

I personally have the narthecium consist of the arm unit and the extra gadgets on the backpack (the lamp and stuff you see on the models). I allow the marine to freely use things in those hands, again mainly based on the fact the models are typically carring two weapons or something, however following the base rules they're not allowed to use both the narthecium and the weapon (or whatever it is) at the same time.

I agree the Narthecium and Reductor are part of the forearm unit - mainly. The backpack mounts a sensor unit and a searchlight - which may form part of the Narthecium package.

Both hands are free to hold weapons. The narthecium must be controled by neural interface to the black carapace. As far as I can see there is no restriction on what weapons an Apothecary can weild. Even heavy weapons should be possible - although the backpack accessories would need to be adapted to an ammo backpack.

You can see in the Ultramarines movie how the Apo holds a bolter in his Narthecium hand.
