generic monster tokens

On these forums we I see a lot of talk about making the game more like what would happen in a story. Something has occurred to me:

Let's say you were on a Lovecraftian investigation. You go to a location, seeking info, maybe because you heard a rumor that there were goings on there. So you know that maybe there's a monster there. But why would you know what kind?

I propose, therefore, creating a set of generic blank monster tokens. They would need to have symbols on them to dictate movement. But otherwise, you wouldn't know what they were until you actually encountered them. Once you do, you then select the actual monster from the cup. It doesn't matter if the monster is the same symbol or not. I think this would be a more challenging way to manage monsters, as it would make planning for them more difficult.

Thoughts?
