MIU Weapon Interface

By tkis, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

How would you implement the MIU weapon interface from Rogue Trader in Deathwatch, especially for a character with a full MIU ?

Rogue Trader Description:

Unlike the more advanced version only granted to Priests of Adeptus Mechanicus (normal MIU), this version is more simplified, allowing the user to remotely operate a single weapon which is normally attached to the shoulder. While not as elaborate, it is easier to use and a favourite of many militant professions.

This system allows user to fire an additional ranged weapon as a Free action (RT Errata, sill only one Attack action per round however)-using his ful Ballistic Skill-no matter what other actions he may be taking at the time. This additional weapon must be connected to the user via the MIU Weapon Interface, and are often equipped as a shoulder mount.

The shoulder mount mentioned does not seem to be the same as Astartes shoulder/arm mount, as those can only incorporate pistols. And function exactly the same as the Forearm weapon mounting from Rogue trader.

The most basic approach would be to allow such an option for characters with the full MIU. Another would be to allow it for the costs of a shoulder mount but with the described MIU mechanics.

Well, Astartes surely not be given simplified versions but rather the whole enchillada. So yeah, I'd say get full MIU first, then ask for shoulder mount. Though I wonder if the simplified MIU could mount weapons that the Arm Weapon Mounting could not.

Otoh, the vaults of Erioch are sure to contain many wonders....

So my reading of Arm Weapon Mount just says 'single ranged weapon', reduce range by 30%, and can upgrade any Las, SP, Bold, Melta pistol, or Aux grenade launcher. The only pistol in there is the melta. But the description does seem to tie in with the 'basic' MIU from RT described.

I'd probably add the 'free action' benefit from RT and call it a day, and charge them for both the mount and the MIU. If you got a master crafted implant maybe get a +5 or +10 to BS.

I would argue that even Astartes don't have unrestricted access into the Mechanicus though as they're separate and insuar org, so I'd think you'd not get the uber cool version, maybe just an inbetween version, whatever that may be (next sourcebook? lengua.gif )

EDIT: Pardon the horrible quotation system, please.

No, it's just their way of saving space. Look at the other weapon upgrade descriptions. It is short-hand for Las-Pistols, SP-Pistols, Bolt-Pistols (what's a bold pistol, btw? An Ork weapon? lengua.gif ), Melta-Pistols only.

A bold pistol is not an ork weapon, it's a high priced pistol that the ruling class carry - it does little damage but gives you a +10 to looking important.

As for your abbreviations, I see what you mean, the 'pistol' being at the end of the line.
