SPACE WOLVES ""DO"" HAVE APOTHECARIES.....

By LORD SHARICK, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

THIS IS FOR YOU GAME STAFF!!!!.....THEY´RE CALLED WOLF PRIEST AND THEY´RE A MIX OF APOTHECARY WITH CHAPLAIN(WICH YOU DIDN¨T INCLUDE IN THE "CLASSES") SO YOUR DECISION TO NOT ALLOW SPACE WOLVES APOTHECARIES KIND OF BOTHERS ME.......BESIDES THE AFORE MENTIONED ISSUE....YOU RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I EXPECT THEM IN RITES OF BATTLE!!

Why are we shouting? Ah, yes: WOOF, WOLF!

Alex

All caps was unnecessary.

And that is the exact reason they do not have Apothecaries in the game: in the Space Wolves they are a mix of Apothecary and Chaplain. Chaplains are not included (I imagine as they are not meant to be seconded to Deathwatch, the religious practices of each Chapter being unique to themselves and often shrouded in secrecy, particularly from outsiders), so it would be unfair to include ones for the Space Wolves (as well as needing it's own specialty due to the shared role, which is a bit excessive for a peculiarity to one Chapter).

Ssssshhhh, Good boy...

The reason Wolf Priests are not in at the moment is, as was stated, Chaplains are not in the game as of yet. When Chaplains are put out I'm sure that Wolf Priests wont be far behind.

Chaplains are seconded to the Deathwatch as they do need someone to help make sure they maintain their spiritual well-being. They just arent in the Core Book because they probibly didn't want to add too much right off the bat.

There is a more likely reason as to why there are no wolf priests:

The space wolf chapter can't get new troops since they went in the eye of the terror and mutated (they have claws and can't make new chapters). Ever since then, the wolf priests have had to stay within the chapter.

Look it up on Wikkipedia.

Wait... WHAT?... I don't even....

No, the reason the wulfen have anything to to with the eye of terror is because a ton of Space Wolves went into it (They are the remains of the lost 13th company iirc). The Wolf Priests have nothing to do with that.

The reason the Space wolves don't have successor chapters is because Russ himself said "SOD THAT NOISE!" when Guilleman told him to break up his Legion. The Great Companies are essentially their chapters. The most likely reason is, as has been stated before, the Wolf Priest is a chaplain as well as an apothecary, and we have not been given rules for those yet.

Wikipedia is to reliable reference material as Slugga is to Bolter.

But a slugga was a bolter...

@ Fenrisnorth - You seem to have forgotten the ill-fated Wolf Brothers , the only recorded second-founding chapter of the Space Wolves. Expunged by their own parent chapter because the curse of the wulfen was to strong within them. Of course, there was also some point about them not having proper Wolf-Priests to help them stave off the adverse effects of their Geneseed.

They're even mentioned in the Codex: Space Marines on the table listing the Legions. Not entirely certain how accurate the story about their destruction is, though.

@ Borithan - A Slugga was whatever the Mekboy cobbled it together from. It could have even once been part of a carburetor from a Chimera at some point. Orky-tech defies logical reason behind how it functions, after all.

Curious, what book talks about them?

Well, to narrow it down some, they're mentioned in the 5th edition Codex: Space Marines on page 8. Can't recall where I saw the bit about the Space Wolves expunging them because of the Wolf Brother s ' tendency to succumb to the curse of the wulfen . There are several references listed on Lexicanum , though I can't locate the reference in the 2nd Edition Codex: Space Wolves that they have listed; page 9 has info and stats on Wolf Scouts and Iron Priests , and nothing I saw about the Wolf Brothers .

Presumably, there could be other chapters out there with ties of blood to the Space Wolves . It's just that no others have been officially recognized in the GW materials.

EDIT: Okay, so I don't have the 2nd Edition Codex: Space Wolves , but the 3rd Edition one. That would explain that... And, 5th Edition as well. But neither which I have are referenced.

I have the 2nd ed SW codex, what's the page number?

Claims to be mentioned somewhere on page 9, if I am reading the references on Lexicanum correctly.

Also, since PMs only work between friends on the forums, I've also sent you a friend request, Fen. That way we don't need to clog the forums quite so much with matters which others might not be so interested in.
