Cohesion question?

By Crazy Aido, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

So, I'm just trying to get my head around one or two things regarding spending cohesion.

The rules state that if I spend cohesion on a squad ability, then I do not need to spend it again for the remainder of that mission. But does that mean I can activate the ability again at a later date without the need to spend any cohesion if I stopped the ability earlier? What about non-sustained squad abilities?

1. Sustained: Spend once and activate/deactivate at will. Only when changing sustained abilities you need to pay again. You can only have 1 sustained ability active at one time.

2. Non-sustained: default length is for the rest of the combat/encounter (GM's discretion). Some abilities have a different (read: shorter) duration, see ability description. You have to pay the cost everytime you activate a non-sustained ability. Iirc, there is no limitations to those, they can be combined with each other or any sustained ability freely - apart from the usual constraints, like needing a battle-brother (of your chapter in case of chapter abilities) in range to join, etc.

So has it been settled that players can in fact, benefit from both sustained and non sustained abilities at the same time? I read the squad mode actions section as saying otherwise (that a character has 1 "squad action" per turn, and is used when they receive a bonus from any squad mode ability).

Also, on sustained, so they pay when activating new abilities, yes, but if they end one sustained ability, switch to another, and then go back and reactivate the first, they don't have to pay a cost (at least, as per how I read what Ross said in that one thread).

I meant kill-team-wise they can be combined. But a single marine can only benefit from one ability per turn. I was just saying that a kill-team could use one sustained power and an unspecified number of non-sustained ones.

And your reading on reactivation is correct: pay once and you have a sustained power unlocked for the rest of the mission.

Also, for the Dark angel offensive ability , you can take actions normally while maintaining overwatch...

So they spend a full action, go on overwatch, then can act normally, while still maintaining overwatch under the initial specific conditions?

Yes. Still pretty powerful.
