Flyer Traits

By Tidomann, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Just looking for some clarification.

The Flyer trait's number is used to indicate at what speed it moves when it flies. This works just like regular movement but applies only when the creature is flying.

Does this mean a creature with the Flyer (12) always moves 12, acts as though his AB is 12 (12 half move, 24 full move, 36 charge, 72 run), or as 6, (6, 12, 18, 48)??? I can't find anything on the rulebook to clarify it any more.

It doesn't seem to be anywhere in the book that I can find. However, that said, the pregen Assault Marine from Final Sanction has his speed listed thus;

  • Half Action - 5m (12m)
  • Full Action - 10m (24m)
  • Charge - 15m (36m)
  • Run - 30m (72m)

He is equipped with a jump pack which gives the user the Flyer (12) trait. So, it stands to reason based off of that example that the different move actions effect the overall speed of a flyer just as it does a walker. Final Sanction can be found for free download on the support site, if you do not have it.

The number in the parenthesis must be the half-action movement - everything else would end up being silly, I think.

Flyer 12

Half action: 12m
Full action: 24m
Charge: 36m
All Out: 72m

The jump pack gives either double the movement if always landing before end of the turn or the Flying(12) trait if used to fly for more than one round. That's from the core rules (Final Sanction rules are a bit simplified).

Another question is if the bonus to movement from the power armor should be applied at all when using the jump pack (probably not is my interpretation).

I would say no as well. Hulking , which is where that movement modifier comes from, is a matter of stride in most cases. Flyer is a distinct and separate beast.
