What to spend Requisition on?

I handle the issue slightly differently in my group. To fill the Backpack with non standard HB ammo you have to pay the costs for 4 HB clips, only one type of ammunition can go into the backpack, the beltfeed can be plugged into a fire selector just like a basic clip. The devastator decided to fill the backpack with normal ammo in most cases, and plug a clip or two of special ammo into the fire selector.

This is an excellent call - although such a Fire Selector is outside the current RAW. Hopefully Rites of Battel will address this.

Another alternative would be to eject the belt-feed and a normal h-bolter clip (containing whatever ammo).

Devastators are one trick pony really; I don't see an issue with the errata interpretation. I understand of course that people feel a need for some kind of symmetry when accruing costs for their characters but honestly once that devastator is out of ammo he's really the lame duck in the party anyway.

The problem with the 'errata' answer, is that it is ambigous.

Q: It states on page 159, in the 1st paragraph titled Special Issue Ammunition: “Special Issue Ammunition for Heavy Bolters adds +5 to the requisition total.” This is due to the increased clip size. Which clip size does this refer to? The clip size of 60 of the Heavy Bolter or the clip size of 250 for the Backpack Ammo Supply?

A: Page 159, second paragraph simply states that Special Issue Ammunition for Heavy Bolters adds +5 to the requisition total. The +5 applies to all special issue ammunition for Heavy Bolters, regardless of whether it is in the backpack or the weapon clip/magazine."

The position that 60 rounds in a backpack costs the same as 60 rounds in a clip/magazine is entirely in accord with the answer...

The answer doesn't actually address the issue of how many rounds DW stores issue for X requisition cost. It merely re-states the RAW - a typical support reply tactic. I accept that, given the context of the question the answer is suggestive that X requisition buys one clip or a full backpack of Y rounds - but still uncertain.

A Devastator Marine out of ammo is only as lame as a Tactical Marine out of ammo. Both draw their Chainswords and Pistols. In any case you seem to be neglecting the possibility of the Devastator Marine carrying extra ammo in clip-form. Why can't he carry the special ammo as clips and change to the special as a reload action? This seems like the simplist way it would work in the RAW.

Re-reading the rulebook it seems to me that special ammunition can only be requested in clip form.

Sounds more likely. Though, Hellfire rounds for the HB are an oddity, since they are loaded singly and change the RoF from -/-/10 to S/-/-. A "clip" of those puppies means 60 single shots with the Blast (3) Quality.
