Chaos Warrior Stats.

By GrimGuvna, in WFRP House Rules

Right first things first.... CHAOS WARRIORS ARE GREAT FOES, in the warhammer fantasy world there is no more iconic enemy as this brutish heavily armoured bloke with his mahousive shield and beefy weapon.

So with that image in mind why is the Chaos warriors soak and defence equivalent to a mail shirt and kite shield combo. (Soak 3, defence 2 respectively). considering that they are supposed to be clad in plate mail and using tower shields should not their soak be 6 and defence 3 ?

Granted this would make them extremely hard to hurt with a damage reduction of 12 for low ranking characters but then again they are chaos warriors and well ARD. definitly for higher ranking PC's.

So why the dumbed down stats doing the poor chaos warrior a diservice. ?

Something else that confused me about chaos warriors is that they have weapon skill trained. Thats cool and only right but HOW TRAINED. is this1 yellow die only or what? What rank is the Chos warrior equivalent too. Is it our choice to say have the chaos warrior have 3 trained dice for weapon skill equivalent to a rank 3 character.

Any insight would be most welcome...cheers.

I've given them soak 5-6, and defence 2-3 depending on god. Khorne has buffed armor, while Nurgle champs armor is in constant decay.

Also given them Training depending on god, for example Khorne again are highly trained, while the other might be less so.

Anyway, my players are in no way near a chaos champion, and should consider themselves very thankfull, they're simply insane beasts that can tear through an entire party of lower experience with relativly ease.

Amen to that, i have full confidence that we will see some suppplements that allow for great customisation of such foes in the future. maybe omens of war me hopes.

I see the chaos warrior just as that. A warrior of chaos. What you're describing sounds more like a chaos champion. But in any case the equipment is just equipment, and you can just give the chaos warrior full plate and a big shield.

As above.

One thing though, monster stat lines are "base" values that you can change depending on equipment you give them or simply if you want to gui%C3%B1o.gif

An Ungor with a Great Club would have a line as St : 4(7). Same way, if some chaos warlord equiped them with good armor, you can add some soak.

For the Chaos Warrior, a soak of 3 and Def of 2 could mean a mail shirt with a shield or just some un-natural bonuses and scraps put together, whatever you want. If you deem it worth a full plate and tower shield, then give him soak 6 and Defense 3, or even more (do not treat them as player character to compare armor soak and defense ratings).

You should not see one creature as a general rule for all of them, but a guideline to were they should be in average, i'd say. There is a Nurgle's Champion-style in the signs of Faith both, he's scarier than the base Chaos Warrior for sure.

Yeah I also see monster and NPC stats as average stats. It's not the way all NPCs of that type is.

Beasties appear to follow the same mechanics as PC's when equipped with armour and weapons. The stats for the Chaos warrior representing what would be a rank and file chaos warrior as opposed to an aspiring champion appear to mechanically have them clad in the Mail shirt and kite shield combo (without fries).

I think my confusion became evident because the descriptive text descibes them as typically equipped in plate and tower shield which didnt match up to the stats presented. (Chaos warrior equipment cutbacks maybe gran_risa.gif )

I think the key thing to assume is that the system is flexible allowing me to use beasties at different difficulty levels. i could use the Chaos warrior as presented as a foe for PC' s at a a lower rank than if I kitted him out in full plate and tower shld which would probably be too much for the PC's at the same rank.

Yep, you've got the idea now! gui%C3%B1o.gif
