Melee and DOS question

By jaynay27, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Hello all,

well this is my first post here, so here goes.

Do degress of success count as additional hits in melee combat the same way they do for some ranged attacks, or do they just impact the minimum amount of damage on *one* of the damage dice for the attack. I looked through the book, but couldnt find a definite answer sad.gif

Cheers,

Jaynay.

Versus individuals, no, DoS doesn't increase the number of hits you do in melee.

Versus hordes, DoS on melee attacks do have an impact, and it's similar to short bursts- every 2 DoS with a melee attack is an additional hit on the horde

Generally speaking the forums 'decided' that DoS can replace a single damage dice on a single attack. Many of us (myself included), also decided that it would ONLY count in attacks where DoS was otherwise meaningless (so hand to hand attacks on single targets, single shots on non-accurate weapons- no helping out the autofire folks with tons of extra damage buffs anyhow).

Right. Minimum damage on one die with every attack where DoS would otherwise be meaningless, that's the house rule.

Good houserule, I will use that. Haven't bothered at all with the "DoF -> minumum dice roll" rule so far, but for single attacks I guess it could be useful. This would also mean that 10+ DoFs is an automatic RF right?

p245 says DoS can replace the damage caused by a single die in an attack. And only natural 10s cause righteous fury (unless you're using hellfire rounds or something).

BTW, how does the DOS and Melee minimum damage work.

It mentions your minimum damage is never less than the DOS. However, it shows damage right before that as your dice roll + strength bonus.

If the minimum damage includes strength, it will never come up for a space marine (who likely has a strength of 10 with armor factored in).

It means you can substitute one die roll for DoS.
