Elite Advances and Space Marine Workshops

By vogue69, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

According to the Elite Advances section (Logic Justification, In-Character exlplanation, Exp Cost) characters can almost freely trade skills and talents between them if they have enough time. My techmarine for example can never ever learn swift attack (a joke by itself). the librarian gets swift attack at rank3. So after taking his advance, he decides to learn it to the group during a long warptravel. several weeks of daily training later one should be able to pick the talent/skilll up.

Any idea on how much exp that should cost? double? triple? quadruple?

They tell you how much they are willing to spend, xp-wise, for it and as GM you decide if that is a fair amount. The GM could also provide other stipulations as well, or increase the xp requirement.

in our campaign Blood Angel bought as elite advance Trade(Artist) for 50exp per level. I allowed it couse it was only his hobby, only for roleplay walue, and completely useless otherwise.

On other hand our DA Librarian on rank 6 bought lvl 4 Assault marine advance counter-attack for listed xp value. Librarian was very melee orientaded, he dueled with BA Assault on every posible time between missions honing his skills. I decided that he deserved it.

But our Black Templar Tactical Marine who is also quite often on front of melee combat wanted to buy Swift Attack on rank 1, i allowed it but at 1000XP on rank 1, 700xp on rank 2, 500xp on rank 3 and upward. he waited till rank 2.

As my personal rule i try to judge how much elite advance is truly needed by player and how much it will empower him, and where such skill/talent is on other specialities list.

I second this. In general, if a GM has enough experience under his belt, he will generally make his life much easier by not defining strict house rules/mechanics in many instances but by judging such cases individually based on intuition.
