Techmarine Questions (Implants and Statboni)

By vogue69, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

I always wondered why a techmarine would choose to have mechanicus implants at the begining of play. now I discovered that you need them for the machinator array and the maglev talents according to the talent descriptions. but the techmarine charts don't say a thing about those requirements. Why in omnisias name would NOT chose the mechanicus implants?

anyway... is it correct that the techmarine implants enhance the poweramor, while the mechanicus implants enhance the character itself? if so, the TG bonus from a machinator array would count towards toughness before doubling it and the bonus from a servo-harness would count after doubling? and can you carry over the talents fomr techmarine implants to let's say terminator armor?

My reading is that the techmarine gets the mechanicus implants and the improve cover abilities automatically. No choosing involved.

Alex

There is no choosing involved, since the implants by themselves don't actually do anything (they serve as a prerequisite for Techmarine's exclusive talents), and Improve Cover is therefore their only starting ability that actually does something.

The implants do do something other than make the later stuff available. Trait:Mechanicus Implants, Sidebar, pg 133. Under respirator Unit - "granting a +20 bonus to resist airborne toxins and gas weapons."

It's not much, which I think is why they also get inproved cover.

True that, except that the Astartes Power Armour helmet already comes with a respirator Unit technically. :)

Well this way you can be an Iron Priest and get the Respirator bonus while still having your helmet off for Solo Mode.
