Pistols in Melee w/ Hordes

By Delahunt, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

I just want to make sure I have this down right.

When you are in melee with a horde, you get an additional hit for every 2 degrees of success that you get on your attack roll. You can also use pistols in melee combat.

So, if you semi-auto a pistol (just assume S/2/- for this) is it possible to get 2 hits from semi-auto + a third hit from the 2 degrees of success in melee? (+ any additional ones for explosive/blast/etc)

Does this work with Swift and Lightning attack since you are in melee? Or is that just for weapons that use your WS and not your BS?

No 2 is the upper cap. You shoot 2 bullets, that means no more than 2 can hit. Thus if the horde makes the roll one bullet hits and if it is 20 or more below both bullets hit.

It cannot be combined with Swift and Lightning attack. First of all those "Multiple Attacks" require a Full Action and firing in auto mode does also cost a Full Action. Secondly, the talents do not apply to pistols. Technically, pistol attacks count still as ranged attacks, therefore all talents which apply to melee attacks do not apply to pistols even in close combat. Otoh, Bolt Mastery (of a PC) would apply to Bolt Pistol attacks. Both in close combat and out of it.

I am sure you can only fire a single shot with a pistol in melee not on Full-Auto or Semi-Auto.

We have house ruled it this way too but the official ruling is that you can auto fire at will - in all the 40K roleplay games.

Actually if you read the armoury chapter in Deathwatch, in the description for the pistol class it says you can make a Standard Attack with a pistol in melee. So single shot only.
