So a definite maybe? haha
Howzabout Last Night on Earth? I would love a plug-in for that in SE.
Hi Chris,
I think that the translation tool does not work anymore. Several people from the french community recently translated the rules (for the book cases) and therefore there is a need to change several things in SE for the translation. Can you contact me by email at [email protected] ?
best

Hi!
I hope it's the right place to post. I'd like to make cards for monsters. So I started from a mythos card so i can use the Headline for the name, the gate place for the image and again the name.
But then, i wanted to put specific boxes to place different data. For example, i wanted a region like "50,320,50,50" in order to put the horror modifier and the horror damage. Or the same kind of box for the Combat stuff. But i can't manage doing those boxes. I mean i use Toolbox->Region Editor to create those region, but i can't use them on my card. At least, i don't know how.
Moreover, i'd like to have a specific back image for my monsters. So i'll look sooner or later to modify it. How can i do? Maybe should i create my own kinf of card? Where could i found a nice "How-to-do"?
Thanks.
Hugues, I don't know whether this can be of any help or not, but it was a thread where Thelric explained some coding for regions and so on; the guy originally opening this thread has opened several threads with problems similar to yours, so maybe you can search for them & dig some useful infos for you!
Thanks. Don't know if it'll help, but i was looking for it unsuccessfully.
That tool is meant primarily to help you tweak regions on an existing card.
It sounds to me like you want to write a plug-in that adds a new DIY card, which gives you the freedom to do whatever you like. Download the plug-in authoring kit and look for the diy folder, which contains several examples. There is also a tutorial page that goes over the basics. And if you download one of the plug-ins that adds content for another game, you can create a project and then import that plug-in file in order to see how they've done things.
Just be aware that Strange Eons 3 will change some of the details of this process (making things easier for the most part), so if you're writing a plug-in for 2.x it'll need some minor changes. On the plus side, the plug-in documentation for SE3 should be eventually be much better than SE2's over time.
Cheers,
Chris

Is Strange Eons 3 going to have some way of showing movement symbols in the card text, because that would be really helpful? (Or does it already and I just don't know about it)?
SE3??? But you're just at 2.1
I think i got everything to build my card. Except maybe the plugin to add existing component. I took some examples trying to understand.
But just to be sure, if i want to put a new back for the card, i have to un-jar the strange-eons.jar, adding my stuff in the /resources folder and then re-jar it?
There are some improvements in AH support in SE3, but the focus is on expanding support for games other than AH.
As to your specific question, if you just want the symbol you can insert one using an image tag. For example:
<image "res://board/gatemarkertokens/gate-T.jp2" 8pt center>
"Files" that use the res:// prefix are taken from resources built into the application and/or plug-ins. Use the Image Resource Browser plug-in to view these. (And for those of you reading this from the future, in SE3 this plug-in is built in; Shift+Click the browse icon.)
If you also want a background, surround it with a bgcolour tag:
<bgcolour #000000><image "res://board/gatemarkertokens/gate-T.jp2" 8pt center></bgcolour>
And if you want to use a lot of these on a card or series of cards, it might be a good idea to define some macros at the start of the text to make the main text easier to read:
<define moveblank "<image res://board/gatemarkertokens/gate-@1;.jp2 8pt center>"><define moveblack "<bgcolour #000000><image res://board/gatemarkertokens/gate-@1;.jp2 8pt center></bgcolour>"><define movewhite "<bgcolour #c4b2ae><image res://board/gatemarkertokens/gate-@1;.jp2 8pt center></bgcolour>">\
All monsters dance a jig. Move them in the following order (a clear background means the matching monsters move towards the nearest investigator):
<moveblank B> <moveblack C> <movewhite D> <moveblank H> <moveblack L> <movewhite M> <moveblank P> <moveblack S> <movewhite T>
Edit: There should be exactly one back slash at the end of the paragraph of <define>s, but the forum code is eating it. The trailing back slash causes the subsequent blank lines to be ignored, so you can leave a blank line before the main text starts to separate it visually from the definitions.
Cheers,
Chris

Actually, the SE2.1 builds are very, very early builds of SE3 (without most of the really nifty stuff). I put them out to make support for Lurker publicly available. The number is going up a whole digit for two reasons: the increased focus on other games, and the fact that plug-ins for 2.x will not be entirely compatible.
Anyway, rather than repacking Strange Eons you should make a plug-in. The files in a plug-in are added to Strange Eons dynamically when the plug-in is loaded. It is similar to packing them into the jar file, but you don't have to update it when a new version of SE comes out. The project system in 2.1 is pretty good at working with bundles (but the generated code from the new plug-in task is currently broken as it is still in development). Download the plug-in authoring kit and open the folder using File|Open Project from SE. Look at the Talisman example in the diy folder for a complete example of a working plug-in that creates and adds new card types.

Chris
BUh wuzzah wuh?
I may need to review this post when I'm not drunk.

Didn't help, did it?
I'd suggest starting with the first <image> tag and working forward from there, pasting each example into a card as you go. At the end you should have this, which should address your original request:

Chris
P.S. If you thought you did see a back slash, you were correct. I got one to appear by typing two of them, but didn't bother to remove the explanation since it will disappear again in any quotes.

Very cool :') Thanks. Why, I could have even understood this one had I been sober last night ;'D
Where can I find a reference map like the one in the strange eons program?

When creating investigators there is a maximum for random items. ex: 3 random common; 2 random spells; 1 ally;
is it possible to override this maximum?
On the Possessions tab, check "Use custom text instead of shopping for items." Then you can fill in whatever you like. Whatever options are selected in the shopping interface will be transferred over to the custom text panel, so you can a base set of items, switch, and fill in whatever is missing.
Cheers,
Chris
wow, I feel dumb for missing that... I spent tons of time trying to figure out how to script it....
Thanks

Hi there!

Is there a way to create special cards in the current build of Strange Eons? For example, is there a way to recreate cards such as Changed, Captain of the White Ship, Rail Pass, Sheldon Gang Membership, One of the Thousand Cult Membership, etc. They all use the same back just with different colors and a different picture in the center. I would like to create my own special cards using this background with the ability to change the color and add my own picture.
1. Possibly.
2. Create a Miscellaneous Small card.
Cheers,
Chris
