Righteous Fury Question Please Help

By Jvirtue55, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

We played Dark Heresy and Im not sure if our GM was doing things wrong (he messed up alot of things)

So when we played when we hit Righteous Fury we rolled to hit and did one additional dice but the rules acording to page 245 is that you reroll all the damage and all the pluses is this true? If this is true on Melee do you add the Str bonus to each set of damage?

The way the rules are worded would have the ST bonus added after all random roles are complete. So ST is added last, and therfore only once. This is the same case in point for additional damage from ranged weapons as well.

The RF example on pg 245 contradicts what you just said. Per RAW, you re-roll the entire damage value (i.e. initial 2d10+5 + 2d10+5 from RF). The same applies to melee, so if your chainsword does 1d10+15 including the Strength bonus, when you gain RF, you do an additional 1d10+15 damage.

However, many people on these boards have pointed out that the massive number of dice rolls thrown by Marines causes a ton of RF chances, and generally obliterate anything hit by RF. Thus, the usual fix is to use DH's RF rules instead. Using that RF rule, you only roll a 1d10 for each 10 rolled on the previous damage roll and add that to the initial damage (e.g. initial 2d10+5 + 1d10 for RF).

So RAW Righteous Fury in Deathwatch is way more powerful then in Dark Heresy? What were they like in Rogue Trader?

Was this a typo or is this showing the Emperor cared more for his Space Marines and is differnt for the GMs characters?

It's as in DW. And it is deliberate choice by the game designers which doesn't make too much sense to anyone else. There's an intermediate solution, namely re-rolling every rolled 10 on a successful RF.

Rogue Trader had the same Righteous Fury rules, but weapons and modifiers weren't as insanely high for most characters as they are space marines.
