Sacris Claymore and Chapter Trappings

By Kerrahn, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Okay, so we all know that everyone has a Chapter Trapping as standard-issue equipment, and I'm under the assumption that once you choose it, you can't change what kind of Trapping it is.

However, while making a Storm Warden Assault Marine, I noticed how the Storm Warden entry states that they can replace their Combat Knife for the Sacris Claymore as starting gear, while making no mention as to requiring to spend their Chapter Trapping 'purchase' on doing it.

Does that mean I can have both a Sacris Claymore and a Tempest Amulet, or (for some strange reason) 2 Sacris Claymores?

If not, I'm leaning towards an Amulet of Might (the +2 Strength just pushes me to 50 Strength before power armour, giving me a SB of 12 instead of 10), but I think it would be fun to have the Sacris Claymore as well, given that my Power Armour history reduces my BS anyway, so why not wield a two-handed weapon?

Unclear. Each GM will have to decide that for themselves for now. I'd probably rule that you can only have the Claymore based on page 169: "A character may start with one Chapter-appropriate trapping from this section." But perhaps I'd make it easier for Storm Wardens to get a second trapping at a higher rank.

That's what I ruled for the Storm Warden in my party as well.

Just as a quick question, does it say anywhere in the rules if there's any benefit to wielding a weapon with two hands? This question is coming from a long time DM when wielding a weapon with two hands gives a bonus to damage.

I think the "damage bonus" is already factored in. I could see such a damage bonus for bastard swords and other one and a half handers though.

I'm pretty certain the two handed weapons just have higher stats for damage- I noticed the same thing in DH, the 'great weapons' that were two handed had higher damage profiles than standard one handed weapons.

At first glance, it apepars most of the two handed weapons simply add an additional 1d10 to the damage. Perhaps in the case of a hand and a half sword or the like, you could add a d5 to damage, or a simple static +2/+3 to the profile? It's not really a 2 handed weapon, but sometimes you can just give it that extra oomph...

2 Handed weapons do seem to have more damage, but can only be wielded two handed and are often Unbalanced or Unwieldy. My Rune Priest has a Force Hammer which the GM and I made with just such restrictions.
