Signature Wargear (hero)

By xandarian2, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

This might be a simple question but my group is rather divided on the topic. While terminator armor itself only costs 60 req, you must outfit it with at least 40 req worth of weapons, thus making it cost 100 req. But since the armor only costs 60, can you buy it with signature wargear (hero)? The catch being that you can only field it when you are willing to spend at least 40 of your mission req to equip it with weapons. Any thoughts on the matter would help greatly.

Theoretically. I do not see why not if the GM allows for it.

Seconded.

I agree. If the GM allows it.

Of course it is always up to the GM, but personally I would say no, as I feel it should only be a very special issue item... ie only when the GM hands it to the players. The fact the full 100 requisition is listed beside the armour (rather than just saying "You also have to buy 40 points worth of weapons) means that in that case those weapons are considered part of the armour, ie you have to afford to pay the whole 100 requisition.

Armour as Signature Wargear is what Artificer armour is there for. And anyway, Signature Wargear is something you should always have with you, not something that you only have with you when you get the 40 requisition to pay for the guns.

I would allow it, but personally I don't think it is a good use of Sig Wargear(hero).

While it is excellent armour, it would be sensible to think that any mission where the squad is intended to go in terminator armour, they will be provided with the needed requisition. I am however, operating under the idea that the entire squad is usually suited in termie armour, not just one or two members.

I would say the talent is better spent on a relic, artificer armour (which can only be acquired via this talent), a mastercraft storm shield, or some particularly high quality weapon (mastercraft heavy bolter with suspensor, mastercraft infernus pistol, etc.)

As much as I love Terminator Armor, I agree with the good KommissarK.

Terminator armor is really quite good, but it is slow (check that -20 Agility), and bulky. If the whole squad is equipped with it, then they will be working as a team. If only one member has it, then he's going to slow the entire squad down. It would also seem odd for him to show up to a stealth mission or diplomatic mission, or to a mission using a Land Speeder for transport, in his big suit of Terminator Armor (and it would suck to pay for the Armor, and not get to use it).

I would recommend, for the Terminator fans among us, using your Signature Wargear to get weapons which CAN be used with Terminator Armor, like Power Swords, Power Fists, Storm Bolters, etc. Then you can use those with your regular armor, or you can spend 60 requisition to get Terminator Armor and mount them on it for the mission. I think that would be allowed by the rules, rather than having to requisition something you already have. A mission req of 60 is going to come by a lot more than a mission req of 100, I bet.
