Question about custom career. Monk'ish-something?

By Wolfmanss, in WFRP House Rules

As the helpfull group organizer as i am (not gm).

I have a 3.5 DND player who wants to join our WHRP 3 grp.

He was interessted in being a monk (he just loves that kinda thing).

1. Is it at all possible? (if yes read on)

2. How would you guys make an unarmed specialist with stong faith? Total new custom career or revamp. or new action cards. Healing probably aint gonna be so big, because the world is DARK AND UGLY, i ensure to tell him that :P

Anyone has some material im all ears, i have the Strange eons program also.

Greetings

Simon

Just make him a pugilist (western style hand fighter). Allow two weapon fighting to be done by hand with the class ability to eliminate the penalty for not using a weapon against armor.

Personally were it me I'd just tell him no. This isn't generic fantasy it's based on a Dark European fantasy world there was no such thing as ninja monks.

But if you want to give him an 1" which will likely later on lead to a mile. Turn the wardancer career into a human one and allow him to fight with his hands and feet.

Its a possebility.

I think we are gonna stick with what we have aswell.

Thanks for the awnsers

Initiate.

He can try to build him like a fighter with no weapons if he likes. It probably won't work and will get him killed. But hey, that'll teach him something about Warhammer :P

^This - that's the winning answer.

It could be done as simply as making an initiate of Sigmar and just let him focus on unarmed combat and you can invent a monestary and background to fit in your version of the Warhammer World.

It wouldn't be too hard to create a new career from scratch either. Its pretty easy to see FFG's line of thinking in that regard. Let the player tell you what kind of skills he imagines his character to have and jot them down. Most careers have five skills unless they are advanced or casters. in the advances section put in numbers between 0 and 4 as you see fitting for the career type. just make sure it totals 10. the rest should be failry easy to fill in. You can let the other careers inspire you with regards to the Career Special Ability. Its pretty hard to make careers unbalanced in this system.

The most important thing to remember is: just because there are no monks in the Old World according to Warhammer Canon (AFAIK), there can be in your version if you will allow it. They could also come from Nippon or Cathay or some other eastern province where such would be more common. They do trade with the Old World and so could come by ship or by the Silkroad of Marco Polo or whatshisname.
