I've got an interesting... situation.
Background info and context: my players and I were play testers for the Edge of Night scenario, which just came out (it's super awesome, by the way: you all NEED to get it
). We used one-shot characters for it, so for our "real" characters (in our current campaign), that scenario never happened.
Please note that there are no spoilers for the Edge of Night in this post. I can't guarantee that subsequent replies won't, though.
We are about to begin the Gathering Storm. I have some concerns regarding possible railroading in that campaign, which I've already gone into some detail in another thread (LINK COMING SOON).
Anyway, one way I thought that I could make things more interesting and flexible for the players is to essentially have it that the three noble families (from the Edge of Night) are in Stromdorf. The actions of the players in this town will increase or decrease their favor with these families, granting them possible patrons down the road.
My goal is to use the magical Rule of Three. That is, three fleshed out possible approaches and/or motives to acquiring the Stones. The particular path that they choose will impress a specific family (out of the three).
So if the PCs decide to acquire the Stone by brute force and PURGING the enemy, that will impress the Noble family which most admires such a style.
Do you think that this is a good idea? I only wish to add a bit of extra choice to the PCs and in consequence, maybe gain a patron as an extra reward!
