How many days of travel between Altdorf and Ubersreik? Also, prices questions

By plutonick, in WFRP Gamemasters

Got four questions regarding travel distance, and currency/prices for experienced GMs that have also played 2nd edition.

1. How long would it take for a group of traveller to travel between Altdorf and Ubersreik if they go on foot, or by coach?

2. How much would it cost to stay at a cheap inn per night?

3. How would you convert 2nd edition currency to 3rd edition? Which rate?

4. I was reading 'Rough night at three feathers] and says that a single room would cost 10 silver. What would be the price on 3rd edition?

Thanks a lot!

On prices I am not sure there is an easy comparison between the two editions.

The 2nd edition system was 1 Gold Crown = 20 silver shillings = 240 Brass Pennies. In the new system it is 1 Gold = 100 Silver = 2500 brass.

Whilst it would appear you can switch 2nd Edition to 3rd by multiplying Silver by 5 and brass by 10 this falls down if you look at the prices given in the various supplements. For example in 2nd Edition Old Wolrd Armoury a suit of full plate armour costs 400 gold which is 20 times the 20 Gold it costs in 3rd edition. Similarly a great weapon in 2nd edition costs 20 Gold which is 20 times the 1 gold it osts in third. However a hand weapon cost 10 gold in 2nd edition which is 40 times the price it is in third. Repeater crossbow have gone up by 30 times etc etc.

I tend to use the approximate incomes given on page 72 of the main rule book as a guideline from which to scale costs. So if a labourer gets paid 1 silver a day then obviously a beer is going to be a lot less than that (otherwise the pubs would be empty), say 1 or 2 brass for a pint of poor beer. I tend to scale everything in the same way.

As for distances no idea. Given that the roads are bad and no one would travel in the dark I would suggest a maximum journey on foot of about 15 miles a day.
