Shooting into engagement - ranged action card available

By Mordjinn, in WFRP Gamemasters

A while back I houseruled the shooting into engament to be more dangerous and to make it easier for my players to be aware of the risks I created the action card for shooting into engagement. If you have a trigger happy engagement shooting elf in your party like I do, you'll want this card. It combines the basic Ranged Shot - card with some complications (party tension, difficulty and possibility to hit friends). Ready to print and glue pdf with three cards (both sides) on sheet. Extra thanks for Iffy for the fantastic card backgrounds.

Looking forward of hearing your feedback.

Do you use this in place of "threading the Needle" which also is about shooting into an engagement?

I can't access the card at the moment (work's firewall), but will get a proper look later, but is this a basic action, one they get for free?

Yes, this is a basic action which enables characters to shoot into engagement with a possibility of hitting their allies if things go awry. Threading the Needle is better for the shooter as no matter what with "Shooting into engagement" basic action creates party tension and the bonuses from the Threading the Needle are better.

-"What the hell are you thinking about, you long eared idiot?! That arrow almost took my nose off!!!"

Do you have the card in better resolution and not so heavily crunched? Maybe as a .psd or .jpg(comp12)?

Hmmm...sure thing I do, but what's wrong with the pdf? I downloaded and printed them out myself as a test and it worked out fine. Sometimes the pdfs don't show "right" on the screen for some reason. Anyways if you still want the jpg of the card just let me know where to send it (Hammerzeit takes ages to update).

I'm kind of a pendant come to image quality. :P

Send it to: [email protected]

thanks alot! :)

Since you could be using basic ranged attack or other ranged attacks (other than Threading Needle), my view is that shooting into an engagement shouldn't be "it's own action card" rather it's simply mods to that action.

I'm using - whatever the attack action card you're using says + 3 Misfortune Dice, with Chaos Star option of hit an ally for 1 wound and +1 Party tension.

That is totally cool. In my case I wanted the card into the players hand so he would have the difficulty and possible outcomes of his attack readily available. But your way works and is probably how most GMs handle it.

I just add a <P> to difficulty, and a Chaos Star indicates you hit someone else in the engagement. lengua.gif

At that point, it's up to fortune+misfortune dice as to who is hit, usually a roll-off between participants and worst result gets hit.

What I find hard about this system is knowing whether an action card exists (or approximates) an action a player wants to take. Take this topic for instance: what I like to do for players attempting actions where action cards exist but where the player doesn't own the card, I like to either increase difficulty a notch, or require an additional success. Also, they never can trigger benefits from the card using boons. This makes the card more valuable to the holder of a card, but allows players to try things without having every action card.
