IG88-B and Snap Shot

By mrkyle, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Curious if IG88-B's ability would trigger after a Snap Shot attack that missed. Based off the wording of B's ability ( after a failed attack) that you could indeed perform the bonus attack.

Can anyone confirm?

No you can not perform a bonus attack as snap shot is also considered a bonus attack. And you are limited to one a turn.

Short Answer: IG-88-B technically triggers after EVERY attack, but you can only perform a BONUS attack once per round.

Explanation: IG-88-B reads, "After you perform an attack that misses, you may perform a bonus [CANNON] attack." It only calls out attacks, which means that you're entitled to use the ability every time you perform any attack that doesn't hit. That said, the rules limit you to only performing one bonus attack per round. That means that, once you've performed one bonus attack, you're locked out of any other for the remainder of the turn. IG-88B, thus, might not be the best ship to pair with Snap Shot , as that special attack card can eat up your one bonus attack per round, rendering his ability to use an Ion Cannon or Autoblasters useless.

Compare the rules for actions, which would limit you to only performing a given action (like focus) once in a round. A later effect (like Jake Farrel boosting near you) might give you the chance to perform an additional focus action, but if you've already used your one Focus action for the turn, you can't perform another. Similarly, Snap Shot (or IG-88-B) would count as your one bonus attack (otherwise, you could technically chain IG-88-B shots one after the other until something finally hits).

Thanks for the in depth answer!
