I give up. How do I counter Republic-beef

U gotta hit and run

If you're not already using high-I separatists, consider using the I3 generics over I1s, so you can make it harder for the Y-wings to get those locks. Then, you just crash in on a Y-wing and I-kill it, then you blast out of there before the other ones can turn around on you. (Note, "blast out of there" can also mean "get in too close for them to turn around without K-turning")

You do have to watch this though, with certain builds. Sync Console will allow one to pass a lock off after an ineffectual turret stab, allowing his K-turned mates to lob their Torps anyway.

See. This is the archetype I’ve been trying to warn people about for a while year.

also big thing to note: a new archetype is emerging: it’s not about beef (but highly coupled to beef) but the incredible pervasion of two dice double arcs. 5 tie Sf, arcs, cheap as **** ywings tie aggressors hmps
it’s the double arc Ships that will make aces die like flies.
they’re the new 2.0 turret. It’s not a real 50% nerf from turrets cuz honestly in 1.0 you still had to largely use two arcs for most of your shooting due to how expensive the ships were. It’s only about a 25% or so nerf. And aces were probably similarly nerfed by 25% effectiveness.
but some of these new super cheap small base double arc ships are going to change the game.

Soontir Fel, Sun Fac, Major Vonreg, Anakin, and Fenn Rau all had a meeting and talked about it, and called to tell me they’re really, really, really not afraid of Republic Y-Wings.

Like, I’m not saying they can’t be killed by massed two-die fire. But on the list of things these guys are afraid of, Republic Y-Wings might be dead last.

dude, so for me the problem is that they're so dirt cheap they can take proton torpedoes + dorsal turrets. I'm not afraid of that two-die fire.

It goes for any 0-1 Agility ships, except ones with reinforce, that they will melt under continuous focus fire. Add in if you’re an Ace with high agility, you can mitigate return shots too. A lot of the time it’s about how you engage, if you are faster, take your time. You don’t have to clean the board, this has been my hardest takeaway, given the rise of swarms. Kill enough to make it hard for them to kill you.
Low agility ships tend to take lock actions too, if they do, it’s better not to be shot at, or at least do it from a 2 die turret. I have found 3 ETA’s to be amazing. Range 1 bullseye is not that hard with the aces. Still four die. I always take evade if I’m being shot at, helps conserve force and it’s better to be alive than possibly convert a hit or two.

What are you using?

The Torpedoes are the dangerous bit, sure. But when you have ships that want to lock and rotate a lot, you gotta get creative. Sailing straight into their teeth is not a good idea. You must flank them, then jump from beyond range three straight into range 1, so the Torps become useless. And try to jump into an arc they didn’t cover when they rotated, or failed to rotate because they were locking. Also, just accept that Vultures die a lot, and if it really drives you nuts, go for tougher or dodgier options.

Again, actual lists of what you and your opponent were flying, and a brief description of setup, might be helpful.

Also watch Gold Squadron Podcast games on YouTube. I don't know if they have CIS vs. Y-Wings specifically, but I've found watching games helpful for kind of learning the flow and what ships to go for at different points in the game and what-not.

Y-Wings have 1 Agility and no Reinforce. Throw a bunch of 2 Red attacks at them and they drop like flies. I do think the Y-Wing is in a tricky price position, because well... It's cheaper than the Rebel one and better by a long shot.

Throw a lot of ships at him. Block with a drone and murder the one without mods.

If you are a CIS player. Can slap a bunch of Trade Drones with Sun Fac. Tractor one Y-Wing, pull it into R1 of your swarm, or onto an obstacle, or into bullseye of Sun Fac and just murder the no Defence ship with a barrage of fire.

Can fit Maul with Grevious and Kraken and a bunch of drones.
