[POLL] Legal Ship Counts: Too High? Too Low? Just Right?

By Mattman7306, in X-Wing

The only other solution that I support for the headaches bids have caused is that instead of being scored at the end of the game, they get scored at the beginning. Make it an actual bid as in wager . You can put up the points to get the advantage, but your opponent starts that much ahead. This would get rid of the 'invisible upgrade' that the bid currently is.

The cap just sounds easier and maybe a bit more interesting of a head game.

The parameter of Epic list was not given. Rather the thread topic is the number of ships allowed in standard tournament play (2 to 8).

I was responding to this, which I quoted in my post:

I'm curious if you can build a huge ship that would make for an interesting match-up against standard 200 point lists. Just as a meme format for a game night.

100%, it should be random. except i dont think bids have anything to do with skill. half the competive players are netlisting, which takes skill in list building out of the equation entirely. Innitiative is so critical in turn based games that choosing to have it isnt exactly skill based either.

I'd imagine the "skill" in bidding is balancing the need to sacrifice points to get advantages over equal level pilots, whilst not oversacrificing that leaves you vulnerable to lists of different pilot skills that didn't bid (which makes your bid value worthless).

Since it takes skill, I don't bid. I just make full 200 squads. Not playing in tourneys helps on that front...

The 6 level limit for pilots is annoying when you make casual lists for you and friends. It's good for tourneys with many unknown lists to face (the bidding aspect) but I dislike making 200pt squads where you know the coin toss is going to have a huge influence on the game. Or worse have minor bids that then bias the game towards that list.

I really try to setup lists without the same pilot level, with interaction; not my turn, your turn stuff...

Like Luke (5) and blue Escorts (2) vs Vader (6) with TIEs at PL 1,3 and 4.

It keeps it fair when you're making both lists.
