SSD Command Tokens

By JediPartisan, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

If the SSD has the Executor title and has multiple tokens, can it spend more than one of a specific type of token during the same turn, if the tokens are spent at a different time and for a different effect.

In the example above of the Executor if it also has both “Shields to Maximum!” and “Take Evasive Action!”, each of those upgrades requires the Repair and Movement tokens (respectively) to be spent at the start of the Ship Phase (prior to the “Reveal Command Dial” part of that phase) , but to use those tokens normally the movement token is usually spent during the “Execute Maneuver” part of the Ship Phase (the third and final step of that phase) and the Repair token is normally spent during the “Reveal Command Dial” part of the Ship Phase (the first part of the phase, but timing wise, after the above cards are used). The Learn to Play Guide says that there are three parts to the Ship Phase, 1) Reveal Command Dial, 2) Attack, 3) Execute Maneuver.

The RRG on page 3 under Command Tokens reads, “Command tokens can be spent at the appropriate time to resolve the lesser effect of that command.” So does that mean the SSD can spend one token during one “appropriate time” and another during the other time since the timing and effect are different, or is there a hard and fast rule that says you can only spend 1 token of one type per turn?

I suppose this effect could also happen if you have Tarken and one of the Fleet Command cards too. You could get the token from Tarken at the star of the ship phase, then spend the token to activate the Fleet Command card, reveal your Command Dial, take a token from the revealed dial, and then spend that token at the “appropriate time” (so you would be spending 2 of the same Command Tokens on the same turn), but is any of that legal?

Yes.

The line from the Rules Reference tells you that you may spend command tokens at the appropriate time to resolve a command. It doesn't say you can't also spend tokens at other times to trigger or pay for card effects.

You can only resolve each command once per turn, and then only with a Dial, a Token, or a Dial+Token, but you can spend as many command tokens as you like. Lira Wessex is another good example of this - if you had her on an Executor you'd probably want to save up a bunch of Repair Tokens to spam when the critical hits start coming in (particularly if you plan on flying through asteroids).

Thank you. 😊

Grumbleduke has got it, but I'll follow up to show support.

As mentioned, you can only resolve a Command once a round as either A) Dial, B) Token, C) Dial+Token.
When resolving a command, if you choose to spend a command token to help power that command, that token is spent for that purpose and not for multiple purposes.
Like, for example, you could not resolve a repair command with a token and resolving Lira Wessex.

Instead, as mentioned, you would need to spend two repair tokens at the appropriate times, one on resolving the command, and then one on Lira Wessex. There are mechanics and card combos in the game that allow you to hold, gain, or otherwise acquire tokens to fuel effects without losing them due to only being able to hold "one" token of each type. One of those is the
Executor title as you mentioned.

As a final note, game rules do state that if a token is "spent" or "discarded" to fuel a card effect, the token is being used to fuel that effect, and not other any other effect.
Hence why you can "spend" a token to help resolve a command, and then also use tokens to "spend" to fuel other effects without conflict.
