Stating up Terrek, Jabba's untrustworthy accountant.

By Humantorch101, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I am attempting to stat up Terrek the Quarren accountant in Jabba's employ.

I like to stat main villains like they were characters, what specialisations would you choose for an Accountant?

He'd have a custom Accountant career, with custom specialisation like "Tax Guy", "Underworld Accountant", "IRS Bureaucrat"...

99% of the population of the Star Wars universe isn't going to fit in the 20 careers and 130 or so psecialisations that exist. Specialisations that let an accountant be amazing at accounting just aren't in the books.

Yep I know that, I was asking for advice as to which career would be his best fit, I was thinking scholar but not sure.

Colonist: Scholar and/or Politico?

(Politico depends on how much fast-talking he has to do when faced with an unhappy/uncooperative Jabba.)

Let's try elimination...

He's not a Clone or Force-sensitive, so that rules out 8 careers right there.

He's not a miltary person, or trained in the use of violence, so that rules out Bounty Hunter, Commander, Hired Gun, and Soldier.

He's not a Spy. He's definitely not an Ace.

He's not technically skilled, so no Engineer or Technician.

He's not a Colonist.

He doesn't smuggle or explore.

I suppose he could be a really bad Diplomat who can't find any work in his chosen field, and has to get by doing numbers for Jabba?

Actually, I would say Colonist Scholar.

He would use Well-Rounded to pick up Computers and Cool.

Skills needed would be Computers, Cool, Deception, Kn-Education, Kn-Underworld, and Negotiation.

Probably Charm as well, depending upon his demeanor.

He would not have the Respected Scholar talent.

If he cross-specced, it would probably be into Trader (from the Explorer spec), to pick up talents like Convincing Demeanor.

@Humantorch101

This is probably a character with zero earned xp and maybe half starting XP if even that. He's a face in the crowd.

Enterpreneur, Trader?

Spy: Slicer career would be best. Any accountant working for a Hutt better either know how to both dip their hands into places they shouldn't be, and prevent others from doing the same to the Hutt's assets.

You are being way too narratively bound by the spec names.

It's an NPC, dude. Guy can stat it how he wants.

Alright, so to actually help the OP...

I don't advise statting NPCs like PCs, but if you really want to, Slicer fits well, I think.

Then something in the duplicitous category, maybe Entrepreneur. Trader maybe a little, but less so.

I'd probably give him 123422 if I were just tossing stats at him, but if you want to build him like a PC, it's not that simple.

Thank you, makes a lot of sense.

Am I looking at it incorrectly then? How would you stat a npc like this, just pick and choose skills and talents or is there a process you would use?

Sorry is it me, or are you being really sarcastic in this thread?

Given that Tessek has a political background in canon and Legends and Senator Tikkes from AotC and RotS was originally intended to be Tessek himself, maybe he could be a Diplomat - Quartermaster?

Yes.

If you look at the Adversaries, you'll see that they all have an assortment of skills and talents. This is how I stat them, and my "method" is to just give them whatever stats I think make sense. So for Tessek, maybe something like:

123422, Soak 2, WT 11, ST* 13, M/R Defense 0/0
Skills: Computers 2, Cool 2, Deception 3, Discipline 2, Negotiation 2, Skulduggery 3, Ranged (Light) 1, Knowledge (Outer Rim) 2, Knowledge (Underworld) 3.
Talents: Adversary 1, Plausible Deniability 1, Nobody's Fool 1
Equipment: Holdout Blaster, Encrypted Datapad, Encrypted Comlink

*Depends on whether it's a Rival or a Nemesis.

I find this saves a lot of time and is much easier to run.

Sometimes NPCs end up with a statblock of something like: Will 3, Pr. 2, Discipline 1, Nobody's Fool 1, and that's all they need. Or for combat, it's Soak, WT, Defense, Agility or Brawn, 1 combat skill, and a weapon. Just depends how important they are.

If he is supposed to be a talented accountant then probably Education 2+.

For choosing what level of ranks to give to an adversary, pg 102 of EoE book gives a description of the skill ranks (I am not sure about copy/paste rules so I will leave a summation below).

Rank 1-2: Someone who has been trained, but lacks experience
Rank 3-4: Professional
Rank 5: The subject matter expert writing all of the manuals you learn from
