Dropping concussion bombs

By Lunar Sovereign, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So, according to the rules:

" To drop a device, follow the steps below:

1. Take the templat e indicated on the upgrade card.

2. Set the template between the ship’s rear guides .

3. Place the device indicat ed on the upgrade card into the play area and slide the guides of the device into the opposite end of the template. Then remove the template."

The problem with concussion bombs is that unlike every other payload upgrade it does not specify a template "on the upgrade card". I think it's fairly safe to guess it's intended to be the 1 straight like every other bomb but the problem is the rules for dropping specifically reference the template "on the upgrade card".

Now, Spare Parts Canisters also tell you to drop the spare parts token without indicating a template and you don't use one for them but their shape is such that its clear you just place them between your rear guides but in the preview image, concussion bomb tokens are the same as all the other bombs indicating there would be a template used to drop them.

Probably getting a bit nitpicky with rules lawyering but my point is that as written, concussion bombs are a bit broken right now.

Looks like a plain SNAFU up from FFG.

Fairest thing to do is the 1-straight that's listed on every other bomb, but appears to have been forgotten here.

This is only a problem if we choose to make it a problem. Choose to treat it as a 1-straight in lieu of official errata, like every other bomb? No problem.

Srtictly RAW , Concussion Bombs lack the necessary information to drop normally. They could be placed with replacement effects, like Trajectory Simulator, Constable Zivio, or Finch Darrow. From a completely literal reading of the rules, replacement effects are the only way you can get them onto the table. This is also impractical for normal play.

Reasonable RAI , Concussion Bombs should share the same standard drop template that every other bomb and mine does: 1 Straight. While it could conceivably be something different, that's highly unlikely, and keeping to the ongoing precedent of 1-straight seems very reasonable.

Likely BISS , we're going to get one of three things from FFG on Day 1... Errata to fix this card, a Rules Change that creates a standard 1-straight drop for all bombs and mines, or an explicit clarification on how the card works. Mind you, FFG could also leave us in the dark, and just let us fight it out... it wouldn't be the first time.
