Upcoming 4 new expansions for Empire and Rebels!

By Cavkov, in Star Wars: Legion

I doubt we'll see more characters cross faction outside of the droids, unless the new ones come with all the command cards that the old one had. So for an Old Ben Kenobi, unless he is named that and not Obi-Wan Kenobi with "Old Ben" as the title, then the Clone Wars Command Cards would still be usable on him, just like we have with OP and CMD Vader and Luke. None of his command cards require you to have clones so they would work just as well in other armies, even if they aren't exactly designed for them, you'd certainly want the more Obi-Wan focused ones.

This then creates an issue with Clone players buying a Rebel Expansion just to get their hands on the new Obi-Wan Command Cards. The same holds true for Rex, and (although she isn't in the game yet) Ahsoka. With all the options for Rebel Heroes, with the rest of Phoenix Squad to go with Sabine, and the rest of Rogue One to go with Cassian, Jyn and K2, why would they repeat the clone wars characters, when they'll soon run out of viable alternatives for the Empire, due to that faction being less hero/villain focused in the lore.

Thrawn and Ruhk, Kanan and Ezra would be the obvious pairings here. Ruhk though would likely be like K2 and require Thrawn and be in the same pack.

Thrawn wouldn't give the Empire the new Force cards though (although I would also like to see him added).

They could do Kanan/Ezra and the Inquisitors as a sort of Clan Wren/Inferno Squad/Path Finders/Operative mix up. Where you can run them as their own squad, as upgrades to other squads, or run them as the indiviual characters themselves as operatives? That would give the Empire/Rebels more Force Cards, and give you way more options to get named characters onto the field.

I like to think that the hint they gave us meant that the thing appeared in the OT movies real quick. Because if the hint was something in all canon that made a brief appearance would be the next unit that would be just funny. Pretty much saying the next units in Legion are from Star Wars.......................................... knowing FFG that could be what they did.

OT era stuff "no one has guessed", off the top of my head:
Garindan spy
Evazan and Ponda Baba
Boussh Leia
General Riekan
Yavin guards
Scouts with stun batons (fallen order)
Wolf rider Ezra and Kanan
Grievbar (Vader comics -please no!)
Deleted scene ROTJ general (cant remember name)
Imperial scanning crew
Incinerator troopers
Shocktroopers
Death star gunners
Commander Sato
Galen Erso
Stormtrooper cadets
Padawan Leia
Sana Solo

So many good options!

  • Oh crap its the Garindan spy isn't............ its checks all the boxes. The hint they gave, spy theme, and the way they hesitated when they tried to explain how it would work for the OT faction....
  • **** Padawan Leia that is a good one that pops out your list. Nobody ever would think of that, its a quick flashback in 9 so it goes with the hint they gave, and its pretty cool............................ Don't think it will happen, but this one is now my dark horse.
  • Lol any of Cylo creations would be funny as well. Sana would be cool tho.

Yeah Bothans could be the "no one asked for" unit maybe?

Giving the Starhawk reveal was given to Armada I could see the official reveal being given to Legion. Would also go with their new spy keyword and with Empire probe droids (or Garindan).

Does feel that Rebels/Empire will be using Rebel characters for quite a while. Most Inquisitors, Thrawn, the Ghost crew, and Ahsoka all seem perfect for the game.

I think we should get a native expansion wave.

CIS: geonosians

Reb: ewoks

Gar: gungans

Emp: ?

+1

+ Trandoshans for the empire

I’d love this. 100% so. Trandoshans are known imperial collaborators so that sorta works, or they could get Mandalorian jump troopers from Rebels.

I'm not sure what qualifies as so unthought of that no one asked for it! But my hopes:

Rebel:
-Hera + chopper
-Ewoks
-other rebels stuff?
-jawas and random droids

Empire:
-Thrawn
-probe droids
-k2 squad
-scar squad + kreel

why do we care at this point, we probably won't see them until the summer of 2021

Give me Garindan for the Imperials and Enfys Nest for the Rebels. I'll take Lando and IG-88 next.

If they were to do Thrawn, I would rather see him with paired Eli Vanto as his counterpart. I think Ruhk deserves to be a stand alone operative if they were to do him.

T16 skyhopper

Cloud Car

Cara Dune + rebel shock troopers. Second sister + purge troopers.

AT-AT for empire 😇 😅 🤣

I don't like that combination of power creep and "unsung heroes". It is what ruined X-Wing. Remember? The game called "X-Wing" because the X-Wing was the fighter to avoid?

Do you really want some Mary Sue eclipsing Darth Vader?

Already happened. Iden!

That's possible since he is definitely more independent to K2 but I do like the idea of getting him in the same pack as Thrawn along the lines of Cassian and Darth Maul packs.

Someone in the OT for a brief moment? Dash Rendar, baby! Shoulder pads give him Armor 1,000,000 making him effectively unkillable.

The probe droids and K2 require that you have Maul and Cassian in your army to take them. Which I think is fine for Ruhk as well, he wouldn't be doing something if Thrawn hadn't told him to, so Thrawn being the commander in your army with Ruhk as the Operative that comes with him is fine. He could be a cheaper option for an operative, since he wouldn't be bringing the level of power we've seen from other Operatives the Empire has, maybe because Thrawn himself will be a more pricey Commander, more so than even Han. I could see him being at the 140-150 mark, where he is "okay" at combat, but the points come from his keywords and amazing Star Cards.

So for the two characters I am firmly of the opinion they will be Force users owing to the new Force upgrades (and lightsaber forms) that GAR and CIS are getting. But the other two releases will probably be generic units.

So my guesses:

Rebels

Character: Kanan Jarrus or Cal Kestis

Unit: The modified luggage transport that the pilots ride around in the hanger on. Or something that is canon from one of the mobile games.

Empire

Character: Grand Inquisitor or one of the Sisters or Brothers.

Unit: Probe Droids with the new Observation tokens.

I'd say so. To me the biggest curveballs so far were the landspeeder and Clan Wren. Having watched the stream, he says that it's a unit that no one has guessed yet, but also emphasises that it is canon. As if to suggest it's something people might assume isn't canon. This to me indicates that it's likely something popular from EU that was brought back to the fold in a game or comic, but went unnoticed. Any thoughts on what it could be?

Well Mara Jade is in a weird state, the only hint to her being canon is some aurebesh on a wall at Galaxy's Edge saying, "Mara Jade lives". Galaxy's Edge is supposed to be canon and a piece of the star wars universe you can visit, so the aurebesh should in theory exist somewhere within canon as well.

It also gives the Empire another force user, we weren't expecting. But I think the likely answer is a unit over a character, like Imperial Shock Troopers or perhaps some of the units from the old force unleashed games.

Honestly, there's not a lot that I know of that was folded back in quietly. Almost every time something from the old EU is brought back in, there's some article on a fan page talking about it. So it would almost have to be some one panel partial glimpse that for some reason wasn't analyzed to death.
The only thing that I can think of is the Rebel T2-B repulsor tank, but that's been guessed at before. It could also be that some people don't think even the more recent video games are canon... Hard to say from that comment, and in my tenure on these boards I've seen people throw out some really wacky guesses as what could be added to Legion, even before this announcement. Honestly many of the units from the Star Wars Commander mobile game would be possible to fill that list. It isn't one of the more commonly known canon games, and has a number of units in it. Phase 2 Dark troopers are even canon again due to that game. Legion has pulled from it before (AT-RT, Wookie Warriors) so that's not out of the question.
The list is on the Wookieepedia entry for units in the game is... interesting https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Commander especially some of the light vehicles which look goofy.

Personally, I wouldn't mind getting Bantha riders, just because then it would be easier to convince my wife to play :-P.

Unlike with the characters, we don't have any other new upgrade cards to use as any sort of indicators. The Viper Probe Droid guess is based on the introduction of Observation tokens, which would be a mechanic well suited for that unit as well, but since it isn't an upgrade card, it isn't as "vital" for it to be released right away.

Putting on my tin foil conspiracy theory hat for a moment, the announced CW releases are currently lacking a Special Forces unit if we compare them to the GCW list. Since the GCW releases have mostly matched up with the Force Org slot the CW releases have filled (which makes sense for them to have similar upgrade slots) then GCW isn't likely to get a vehicle, since that would mean CW should also get a vehicle (or the vehicles would have no new vehicle specific upgrade cards).
So Phase 2 Dark Troopers are in the running for Empire, and maybe Rebel Vanguard?

Could really do with a proper tank type unit for the Rebels.

Or fix the current ones we have so we'd be interested in playing them

For the rebels you still have Ahsoka , Kallus as well, Cal Kestis. Mon Mothma (if the Emporer can fight, why not her).

Well, Sheeve, is a Sith Lord with a lightsaber and force lightning and we've seen him on screen kicking *** in two moves and The Clone Wars so there's that reason.....
