Cheap Terrain?

By TIE wing, in Terrain Building

is there a website that sells cheap terrain I can use to fill a 6 by 3 table?

So one route you could go would be to look for papercraft terrain. It would be files you'd download, print, cut fold and glue, and then you'd have terrain. Usually works best using cardstock instead of regular printer paper.

It's been a long time since I've looked into papercraft terrain, so I don't know if anyone's making any Star Wars specific designs, but that could be an option.

As a matter of fact, someone is .

@TIE wing What's your definition of cheap? Terrain is always a trade-off between detail, durability, time/effort, and price. You can make your own terrain very cheaply, but it will require time and effort on your part. Verisimilitude takes dedication; either your own or paying for someone else's.

So, some may think this is crazy but if you go to a pet store or look on Amazon, I recommend aquarium/fish tank decorations. I bought a bunch of rocks and logs for a forest scheme. They were like $5-$10 CAD each, pre painted and looked the part. One of the better hacks I’ve found for wargame terrain.

Bonus points because if you use some of the plastic underwater plants, above water they make it look like an alien world very easily.

thank you! I think the fish tank decorations would fit nice with the foresty themed battle field

Also, if you go to Walmart, they sometimes have cheep plastic floral sprigs that can be chopped up and used for vegetation. I found some with spikey Purple Flowers and Fern Leaves that worked phenomenally. At .89 to 1.09 each sprig, not a bad option either(at least here in my local Walmarts).

The cheapest of terrain is the terrain you make. Use cardboard, packing foam, random objects. The dollar store is your friend. Some glue, and a can of spray paint, and you have some terrain for the cost of a happy meal.

I found a 1ft by 1ft foliage mat at the dollar store near me for 1.50USD. It can be plucked and made into dozens of small bushes and shrubs.

I keep an eye on craigslist and Facebook market for old or broken toys. I was able to grab a U-Wing in good shape for $10, I need to weather it and it will be ready for the table for Legion or RPG.

Not cheap up front, but boy it is worth it. Get a 3D printer. There are some great files to print for free out there.
