Separatists / Republic faction alignment clarification

By Clonkonaut, in Rules

Hello there!

I haven't seen a simple clarification anywhere where the Separatists / Republic fall into the light/dark spectrum. Whenever I watch some battle reports online, it is assumed that Separatists are Dark Side and Republic Light Side. However, the rules reference on page 5 says:

The Galactic Empire is aligned with the Dark Side, and its units can equip “Dark Side only” upgrade cards, while the Rebel Alliance is aligned with the Light Side.

Separatists/Republic aren't mentioned at all. Has this been decided anywhere or is it assumed to be like I said?

On the same note, what about "Imperial only"? I'm asking this because I just watched a Battle Report in which the Separatist player used "Imperial only" cards (also implying that the Republic could use "Rebel only"). I presume that's a mistake?

The text under Upgrades probably needs to be updated, but in the RRG under Factions it says:

"Only units of the Galactic Empire or the Separatist Alliance factions can equip upgrades with a “Dark Side only” restriction. » Only units of the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Republic factions can equip upgrades with a “Light Side only” restriction."

As for the last part, they were definitely wrong about that. Imperial only is Imperial only, full stop. Same thing for the Rebels. Separatists and Republic will eventually get cards specific to them (we assume).

What Imperial only cards did they use? I can't really think of any cards that are Imperial-only that aren't really "UNIT-only."

It could have been the faction-specific generic command cards (which was my first thought) or it could have been the generic personnel upgrades (Officer, Comms Tech, etc). Might be something else I'm forgetting.

Thanks, I missed the rules under Factions!

As for the card, yes, it was a Command Card, I think "Pinned Down".

An example for "Imperial only" (or "Rebel only") upgrade cards would be the Medical oder Astromech Droids, however.
