Finding friends for the Rebel YT1300

By LUZ_TAK, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I noticed that I almost never play the Falcon. Unless I’m toying with the Ghost, I always end up flying small base ships. I like 3 and 4 ship lists. So how do I fly the YT1300 with 2 or 3 wingmen (as to avoid the Han+Luke archetype).

Came up with this:

Rebel YT 1300 and friends

(79) Lando Calrissian [Modified YT-1300 Light Freighter]

(5) Nien Nunb

Points: 84

(36) Jake Farrell [RZ-1 A-wing]

Points: 36

(40) Blue Squadron Escort [T-65 X-wing]

(0) Servomotor S-foils

Points: 40

(40) Blue Squadron Escort [T-65 X-wing]

(0) Servomotor S-foils

Points: 40

Total points: 200

I chose Lando and Nien because it seems they can help out any ship (can the use the pilot ability on themselves? I guess answer is no) and theme. Could have gone with Leia instead. Then filled up with 3 ships I tend to like, but not sure if they are a good choice.

Suggestions on what to list build to get the YT1300 plus 2 or 3 extra ships?

Edited by LUZ_TAK

List above looks solid. Lando and Jake both can toss around a lot of free actions (and Lando can use his ability to let Jake do his whole thing even on a bump or such). X-Wings are just good firepower. Everyone has a lot of mobility with solid access to the Boost action.

A friend of mine flew Leia + 3 Blue Escorts that was pretty similar. There's less sharing involved, but an extra 3-dice attack. Pretty simple and effective, but a lot will come down to player skill.

I've also seen a decent number of Lando (or Leia... any Lando could also be Leia)/Luke/3rd. Often a named B-Wing (Braylen or Ten Nunb) or A-Wing like Arvel or Jake. Just position him on his own action, and if an enemy gets close, you can use Lando to send him in for a ram with a boost. There's going to be at least a few spare points for necessary upgrades with any of these pilots, but a lot will come down to taste.

I’m not a rules guru, but I see no reason why Lando’s pilot ability couldn’t affect Lando himself. Ships are friendly to themselves, and they’re always range 0 to themselves as well, so yeah, it looks like a Lando basically takes double actions after a blue maneuver, if you want him to.

Someone like @theBitterFig should correct me if I’m mistaken!

That's one of the reasons Lando is so good: he can double-action for himself, or for someone else. Block him and he folds like a bad Sabacc hand, and he's somewhat predictable since he's always dialing in blues, but he's solid overall.

For another cool trick, Lando can also give himself an action if he flies over an Asteroid or Gas Cloud (but not Debris... the stress happens first). Really handy for those times you put yourself on a Rock, and then can boost off to still shoot. You skip your normal action, but still.

Then it's doomed 🤣

Nice to see I pulled a decent list at my first attempt.

Might consider swapping Jake for intimidation Arvel to see if lando coord helps him get the bump vs ini 4 and 5:

YT 1300 and friends (Arvel)

(79) Lando Calrissian [Modified YT-1300 Light Freighter]
(5) Nien Nunb
Points: 84

(39) Cavern Angels Zealot [T-65 X-wing]
(0) Servomotor S-foils
Points: 39

(39) Cavern Angels Zealot [T-65 X-wing]
(0) Servomotor S-foils
Points: 39

(34) Arvel Crynyd [RZ-1 A-wing]
(3) Intimidation
(1) Marksmanship
Points: 38

Total points: 200

If I can pull it off, having a double modded Xwing shooting at a -1 green target sounds awesome.

Maybe fly with the foils closed to use boost and rely on the mods to push damage? Sounds too tricky for my skill level....

Also seems fine, but Crack Shot > Marksmanship. Arvel won't always be touching, and some opponents will still get evades, even if he is. MMS is only actually worthwhile for crit synergies, like Seyn Marana and Maarek Stele. Everyone else is Crack Shot all day long.

The thing with closing to Focus-Boost is that it really lets you position better and range control better. It's not an always thing, but when you can bend that arc, or get into range that much faster, it's often a really useful tool.

Lando with Leia and Braylen and Ten Numb set up to double tap with Autoblasters. Hyperspace legal.

Edit: and of course Nien, it's an autoinclude with Lando

It's technically Han/Luke I guess, but it has that third ship you're looking for. This version is one of my favorite lists. Han or Luke with +1 Agility becomes much harder to kill with Han's rerolls/Lando tokens and Luke's force, and Evaan herself when boosted has survived far longer than she should have when the opponent got fed up with her and chased her down instead. Most craziest example with Evaan is my last game, with Evaan having only 2 Hull left vs. TL+Force modded Proton Torpedoes from Kylo. I spent her Focus on boosting her Agility, Kylo got 3 hit results, Evaan got 2 natural evades and no Direct Hit and managed to live another turn. Lucky, but it's still something that wouldn't have happened with any other Y-Wing. Despite her range 1 limitation, I haven't had trouble having Evaan stick close enough during early engagement to do her job, R4 + side facing Ion Cannon gives her a fair amount of freedom to put herself in range 1 of Han and/or Luke and keep targets in arc. R4 synergizes with K-2SO in addition to opening up Luke's and Evaan's dials, since they both have a wide range of blues that keeps them from being too predictable. Evaan especially likes that Calculate token since she's usually spending her Focus on her ability. Often that one calculate is all she needs. Foresight on Luke has also been a big help, adding a bit of red dice output with little cost (since shooting at Luke gives him his Force back) and helping Luke get shots on higher initiative repositioning aces -- I managed to win a duel with Luke vs. a Kylo that moved last in my last game thanks largely to Foresight.

I sometimes fly this list with Lando + K-2SO + Nien (no R4 on Luke), and it probably works alright with Leia over Han if you'd prefer Force to hugging rocks for rerolls. Leia also synergizes with Evaan somewhat by letting her use her red maneuvers and still get a Focus token to fuel her ability.

But by the time Lando does his blue move, Ten and Braylen should already be stressed, so cannot do the Lando-coord action, right?

Unless they just do one action when they activate and use Lando to do focus into barrel roll or barrel into lock.

Runs the risk of having no stress if Lando gets bumped but can help get locks at I5.

I see, txs for the clarification.

Its good. At the OP I meant 2 ship builds. Would be awesome to field Han & Luke & something else.

Evaan Y wing looks nice, but the R1 effect seems like it limits a lot how you fly your 3 ships. Don’t you agree?

My go to for 4 ships with Han is this:

New Squadron

(80) Han Solo [Modified YT-1300 Light Freighter]

Pretty simple, a good bid or points to play with as you choose but I think its good as is with three blockers that can make a huge impact

The best friend for a YT-1300 is... ANOTHER YT-1300!

•Lando Calrissian - General of the Alliance (79)
•K-2SO (8)

100% I'd swap those Shield Upgrades (well... probably Chewie first) for Engine Upgrades. Boosts are legit strong, and one of the biggest reasons to fly a Falcon.

Lando normally doesn't need one, since he's always doing blue moves, but with K-2SO, you'll probably want to be unstressed, so white Boost.

Leia, IMHO, loves an Engine Upgrade anyhow. She wants her dial open to pull a Red move if she wants, and a big strength of her relative to Han or Lando is that she doesn't care about obstacle position or her own dial when it comes to her own actions. I say lean into it, and get that white boost to open up the white on her dial.

You move Ten and Braylen. Ten takes Roll > Red Lock, Braylen moves and takes a Lock or Focus. Then when Lando moves, he can give Braylen the Roll > Red Lock or Focus > Red Roll. Double tap Braylen is the best thing ever. You can ditch Leia for double tap on Ten as well, I guess. Just the B-Wings are excellent Knife Fighters, very easy to turn around on the spot. Making them white is amazing.

Alternatively make both B-Wings able to double tap and slap Lando with Title. If they focus B-Wings, you make them super deadly. If they focus Lando, you make yourself very tanky.

Something like this?

Because Lando almost always dials in Blue moves, you can get by without Engine Upgrade. I'd add Autoblasters and S-Foils to Ten instead. Should be 3 points to spare, so... Hull on Lando?

this "intimidation" heavy list was curious to me, so I gave it a shot with Lando:

Intimidation Lando & Awings

(79) Lando Calrissian [Modified YT-1300 Light Freighter]
(5) Nien Nunb
(3) Intimidation
(3) Millennium Falcon

Total points: 200

  • Lando Calrissian (79) : Nien Nunb (5), Millennium Falcon (3)
  • Braylen Stramm (52) : Autoblasters (3), Stabilized S-Foils (2)
  • Ten Numb (48) : Fire-Control System (2), Autoblasters (3), Stabilized S-Foils (2)

Or...

  • Lando Calrissian (79) : Nien Nunb (5), Millennium Falcon (3)
  • Garven Dreis (47) : Proton Torpedoes (13), Servomotor S-Foils (0)
  • "Dutch" Vander (40) : Ion Cannon Turret (5), R4 Astromech (2), Proton Bombs (5)

You have a very beefy list of lots of pew pew. And then you have a very action economy heavy list of double modded attacks with some additional battlefield control. Both are Hyperspace Legal.

EDIT:

Or Force Twins with a Plus...

  • Leia Organa (79) : Nien Nunb (5), Millennium Falcon (3)
  • Luke Skywalker (62) : Servomotor S-Foils (0)
  • Thane Kyrell (48) : Servomotor S-Foils (0)

Just some Force goodness in the Falcon and a few late game pieces. Thane is the least dangerous one here, untill enemies pile some damage cards. Cute thing is, that's again Hyperspace legal and you have the benefit of being I5 all around.

I saw Oli P. flying this, similar to yours @Schanez

Flew it a couple times: very nice because three ini 5s, three double-modded attacks each turn. Not exposing a tokenless ship after a k-turn.

suprisingly Leia flies more like Rey than any other falcon! Arc to the front, instead of the 'usual' circling.

Very nice Leia+Luke+Thane lists... so much lists to try! so little time to try them.
