Can the dragon retreat flying if they do not have any other possibility or can they only retreat flying if they attacked flying (i suppose in the field they come from, if that is true)? I find the text not very clear...

Neither, Dragons follow the normal retreat rules. The only instance in which they "fly" is when forced to retreat from whence they came.
