Basics - Jump and difficult terrain

By Deddog, in Rules

Revisiting JUMP after seeing some games on youtube.

Scenario - Hero jumps in woods or river - full move.

Once in the cover, players seem to think that hero is now constrained by movement penalties. They now perform a move at speed 1.

Looking at JUMP it states: "While performing a move with the jump x action, a unit ignores the effects of difficult terrain"

Thoughts?

Since Jump is a card action (in addition to being a move action) it can only be used once per activation. And you only ignore terrain during that particular move.

So yes, they are correct to play it this way.

No, that's incorrect.

"While performing a move with the jump x action, a unit ignores the effects of difficult terrain."

"The jump x ability can be used any time a unit would perform a move action or free move action, including while using the dauntless keyword or when a friendly unit uses the pulling the strings ability."

Page 49.

There are no rules constraining jump to only a single move action per activation.

Yes there are. The “card action” rules specifically. Jump is simultaneously a move action and a card action. The card action half of the equation is what stops you from performing it more than once.

Confirmed by the devs, btw.

Citing rules to back up the "one jump an activation": "If an ability is preceded by a card action (󲊂) icon, that ability can be performed as a card action as one of the two actions that a unit can perform during its activation. If an ability is preceded by a card action (󲊂) icon, that ability is a card action.
» Each card action is a unique action; a unit can perform different card actions during its activation. However, a unit cannot perform the same card action more than once during its activation." Page 12.

Jump is preceded by that arrow symbol, therefore it is a card action and can only be performed once during its activation. It can ALSO be used outside of the activation, but nothing changes that it is a card action, and therefore can only be done once an activation.

I stand corrected. 🤣

Hey, do you know where they did that?
