Can a unit with long range comm link benefit from comms relay if it’s outside range 2?

Technically no, because comms relay explicitly requires range 1-2; but you wouldn't really need it with long range comm link anyway (unless you're trying to do something tricky with the order).

I don't see why that would "technically" be the case--there's no reason why one would invalidate the other. As far as I can tell, as long as the unit with Comms Relay is a Commander or Operative (as required by Long Range Commlinks), they could pass an order off at unlimited range to a unit with Long Range Commlinks.

I stand corrected... except for the fact that the only one that meets such criteria right now is R2-D2 (Cad Bane in the near(?) future as well). There isn't a single commander with a comms upgrade. XP

That actually doesn’t work. The first part of Comms Relay is to choose a unit at range 1-2. Long Range Comms doesn’t affect that choice.
