What would you like the next SW cartoon to be about?

By Mandalore of the Rings, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

There is a rumor that it came from a Traveller campaign that Joss played in during college.

Hadn’t heard that one. But I’ve read comments from him saying that he didn’t consciously set out for the crew of the Betty in Alien: Resurrection to be prototypes for the Firefly characters, but once someone pointed the similarities out to him, he could see them; a case of, “These characters need to get out in the world.”

Here's a link to the article.

It's an interesting read.

Again. Not confirmed, but very suggestive.

Cool. I'll check it out sometime. Now, the Wild Cards book series? That's been confirmed for decades to have been born from an RPG campaign (Villains and Vigilantes? GURPS? I can't recall.) that George RR Martin and other SF/fantasy authors played.

Now this... this sounds awesome . I'm really looking forward to it. I've already stated my reservations on the subject, but the time period and themes have a lot of potential.

One of the stories I hope they cover is how Rex, Wolffe and Gregor got together after the war.

Well... that is disappointing. I didn't care for that Clone Wars arc at all.

Resistance is set after the OT. The High Republic is set far, far before Episode 3.

This meme is stupid and dumb and you should feel bad.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with setting stories during that period. Rebels and Rogue One and Solo ranged from very good to amazing in my book. I just don't care about that particular group of characters.

Disney has actually had a pretty good spread across the eras for their media:

During 1-3: Clone Wars
After 3: Bad Batch
Between 3 and 4: Solo
Before 4: Rebels, Rogue 1
During 4-6: Lots of comic books
After 6: The Mandalorian
Before/during 7-9: Resistance

The time between 3 and 4 is probably the time period with the most potential, and let's not forget that it's an almost 20 year period. They have one item that rests on the back end of the Clone Wars era, one item that sits pretty precisely in the middle, and then two on the back end of the era, shortly before 4.

They are lacking a movie or show during 4-6, but that's where the big comic book series have been based.

Yep, a period stretching, for reference, from the Y2K panic until today and then across an entire galaxy. It seems that there would be enough stories that could be told in so long a time frame in an entire universe. I wonder if people who post such idiotic memes complain about the many, many WWII movies as well seeing how that one take place on just one world and lasted 5 years only.

But, see...applying logic and common sense like that doesn’t help drive the “Diznee is evil cuz evil Diznee” narrative.

I'm just glad we finally got some SW merchandise since the move to Disney, you know.

Yeah, just don't really care about that group of clones that much either. I'll give it a try though. Maybe I'll be surprised! Can't be worse than Resistance... I would have liked a High Republic show but oh well.

The divisiveness and mismanagement of the Disney Sequel trilogy and Galaxy’s Edge drives the “Diznee is evil cuz evil Diznee” narrative.

Anything else is merely gravy ... or, in an even better analogy, sprinkles.

You mean the stuff that’s not selling?

You’re now the Meme Police too?

Haha! 😂

Man, Stan, you are truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Every fandom has “division.” More and more, though, the perception m of that “division” is magnified by those who have discovered that they can make money by fanning the embers of people’s individual disappointment with works of fiction into a bonfire of outrage and personal offense, by crafting a narrative of behind the scenes incompetence or malicious intent (sometimes both).

Look, I can understand being dissatisfied with a franchise that one had hoped and/or expected to enjoy. I’m a lifelong fan of DC’s comics, but I’ve got my own laundry list of problems with the current movie franchise (and some of the current comics, too). But, believe it or not, I totally understand why Warner Brothers chose the approach they did. I may not enjoy the movies, I may think they’re not doing the characters any favors. But, I don’t rage about conspiracies, agendas, and so on. When I engage in conversation with those who don’t share my opinion of the movies, I do so civilly and respectfully.

But, sure...Disney‘s out to do you dirty. 🙄

I'm less disappointed than I thought I might be now that the news is out. It occurred to me that I don't really care *who* it's about, but what the story is about and whether the character arcs are worth watching. I'm sure they will have to wrestle with all kinds of personal, social, and political issues. Presumably there won't be a Jedi around them when Order 66 comes through, so we'll have to see what kind of lingering effect there is; and is that changed by seeing the Republic turn into the Empire...or do they care about that? Do they celebrate it and slowly wake up, or just roll along happy to have a purpose?

It's a ripe field, it just depends on who tells the story.

That's very kind of you.

Isn’t it sad when people don’t pick up on tongue-in-cheek humor?

The divisiveness and mismanagement

At least you immediately make clear where you stand in this so-called division.
Isn’t it weird how the few people who argue there is this huge division are on one side of it?

I would love to see a High republic just because it's the new thing and has so much potenial
