Keywords and Attack pool.

By Bolcavage, in Rules

Keywords on attacks add to the entire take pool, as it doesn’t matter what dice make hits. If you add DLT to the stormtroopers attack pool, and both red dice blank out, the white dice will still get impact against armor.

all of this is true for except 1 keyword, “High Velocity”. It only counts on the dice for that weapon and not the attack pool. In fact every weapon in that pool must have HV to be unable to dodge. Why?? why is this the only keyword in the game that is lost if other weapons are added to the pool?

Because the designers didn't want it to be abused by adding it to attack pools.

Only the sniper can add that keyword. With the commando/scouts/strike teams. These units are pretty easy to kill. Far from being able to be abused. To have high velocity complete taken away is a little over kill.

Maybe they should add an X after the keyword. As in it cancels the use of x dodges. An agile 1 killer.

See the new AAT and Saber tanks. They have a round called High Energy which has the keyword. The tanks are both Arsenal 2.

Not to mention the AAT's main cannon. Which means the AAT can use Arsenal with the main cannon and HE Shells to get a 6R1W Critical 3 Impact 1 High Velocity attack pool.

If High Velocity did add to any attack pool, clones (say, Phase Is with Z-6 and extra trooper) could Fire Support into a Saber with HE Shells for up to 4R7B9W Critical 2 Impact 2 High Velocity.

By the Force, may that never come to pass!!

High velocity is meant to be a undodgable bullet. If you make it such that it works better with larger dice pools and make it High velocity X , ignore X Dodge tokens spent so if it was HV3 and your opponent has 4 dodge tokens they would have to spend 4 dodges to block 1 hit. Whereas working as is applied to a large pool means that you have large dice pools that can ignore the defense of an opponent.

This accurately simulates a high powered , extremely accurate shot that is lower, but almost guaranteed damage, which is opposed to the large dice pools that could have cover, dodges and defense dice reduce the dmg to zero. In essence this is what snipers used to do, a long distance kill shot that would leave most of the unit intact.

Changing it up to work with any dice pool ruins the verisimilitude.
