Aim Token Re-rolls

By Spakryan, in Rules

Hi all, fairly new to the game (10 games or so).

I've played some new people over the weekend and have walked away confused around aim token re-rolls.

My previous understanding of how the re-roll would work:

3 dice are rolled,

1 hit and 2 misses,

Spend aim token,

re-roll the 2 misses gaining another 2 hits,

TOTAL of 3 hits in the attack pool. (1 original hit + 2 re-rolled hits)

This to me made sense.

My opposing player had instructed the following to me during one of my own attack rolls (so no reason to think he was purposely trying to mislead. Either correct, or confused himself).

3 dice are rolled,

2 hits and 1 miss,

spend aim token,

re-roll the 1 miss die aswell as re-roll 1 of the hit die,

both landing another hit each.

TOTAL of 4 hits (original 2 hits + 2 re-rolled hits)

To me this feels like you effectively are adding additional dice into the dice pool without having to indicate elsewhere in the rules how to determine the colour dice you get so instead the rules state you can re-roll up to X dice , not X misses/surges like I assumed you would.

Could someone assist in explaining. Have I been given a "bum steer" with this or was it correct information?

Thanks in advance

You were right. He was very, very wrong. Results aren't counted until after rerolls.

Your opponent was terribly wrong. With the Aim you're rerolling dice, not adding them to the pool.

I think you been cheated!

He mislead you. You only count the number of attacks during roll defense dice, and compare result steps, so it only matters what's on the table.

AIM:
-During an attack, a unit can spend one or more aim tokens
to reroll up to two dice for each aim token spent.
»» Aim tokens are spent during the “Reroll Dice” substep of
the “Roll Attack Dice” step of an attack.

-If a unit has multiple aim tokens, that unit can choose to
spend each subsequent aim token after determining the
results of rerolls granted from a prior aim token.

-A unit can reroll the same die multiple times by spending
multiple aim tokens; however, each die can only be rerolled
once per aim token.

ATTACK:

4)Roll Attack Dice: The attacker chooses an attack pool and resolves the following substeps in order:
a. Roll Dice: The attacker rolls the dice in the attack pool.
b. Reroll Dice: The attacker can resolve any abilities that allow the attacker to reroll attack dice.
c. Convert Attack Surges: The attacker changes its attack surge (󲉢) results to the result indicated on its unit card by turning the die. If no result is indicated, the attacker changes the result to a blank.

5)Apply Dodge and Cover

(...)

7)Roll Defense Dice

(...)

9) Compare Results: The attacker counts the number of hit (󲉠) and critical (󲉡) results, and the defender counts the number of block (󲉣) results. Then, the defender’s total is subtracted from the attacker’s total, and if the attacker’s total is greater, the defender suffers a number of wounds equal to the difference.

It was during OPs own roll (so, it'd help him).

That would make aims extremely powerful on red dice, Tauns would absolutely be OP where you could the offensive push instead of tenacity and just shoot your opponent for 5.25 average hits per shot.

Thanks all for clarifying, glad I had the correct understanding.
