Heavy Weapon Upgrade and Removing Units

By Twelve Parsec Meiloorun, in Rules

New player here. I have 2 questions if someone can help. Apologies in advance if this has already been answered,

Question1: If I have a heavy weapon upgrade, for example a DC-15 Trooper, and that mini is removed from the table, does my Phase 1 Trooper unit still get that weapon? Or is it once that mini is gone that weapon is gone also?

Question2: If my Phase 1 Trooper unit only has 2 minis left, a DC-15 Trooper and the leader, and the leader mini is removed, the DC-15 trooper becomes the leader I get that, but does it retain its DC-15 or use the standard DC-15A Blaster?

Thanks.

Question 1: Once that mini is gone, the unit can no longer use the heavy weapon.

Pg. 73 in Weapons:

• Personnel and heavy weapon upgrades can add trooper minis to a unit. While attacking, these minis can use the weapons of the unit card they are equipped to.

»» Heavy weapon upgrade cards include the ranges, attack dice, keywords, and other rules specific to the weapon that the Heavy Weapon upgrade card grants to the unit.

» » While attacking, only the specific mini sculpted with this weapon can use it, though it may choose to use one of the unit’s other weapons instead.

Question 2: If you must remove the unit leader because of line of sight, you remove the model then replace another model with the unit leader. Else the unit leader is the last model to be removed.

Pg. 31 Defeated:

• In the rare situation in which a unit leader is defeated and there are still minis in that unit, the player who controls that unit must immediately choose another mini in that unit to become the unit leader—the player replaces the chosen mini with the unit leader mini.

Q1: No, if you loose your heavy weapon mini you can't use it anymore. On the other hand you can choose which mini dies, if your unit gets wounded. This means that the heavy weapon is usually the one that remains in your squad as long as there are enough troopers that you can take off the board, except your unit leader.

Q2: In that case you would take the heavy weapon mini off the board and place the unit leader on the position the heavy weapon mini was. You also loose the ability to use the heavy weapon in that case.

For rules references look at atbauchat's answer above.

The exception to Q2 is Strike Teams, where the Heavy Weapon is the unit leader, and therefore is removed last.
