How would you rank the scenarios?

By IWasLeft2Die, in Mansions of Madness

I have been wondering what scenarios are the most liked and the least liked. How would you rank the scenarios?

I recently got the game and have base set, recurring nightmares, suppressed memories, streets of Arkham, twilight of sanctum, and beyond the threshold expansions and no dlc.

Yeah, I suppose I also desire additional info that isn't in the scenario highlights that are helpful to know going in.

Like:

Is this scenario combat heavy?

This is a good scenario for people who like x type of games

Non scenario related data that I'd like to know is:

How would you rank investigators either in ease of use or enjoyment? (I know that they have the stats for win loss but it's hard to tell if that's due to a scenario difficulty, the investigator, or having a good or bad team impact it most)

I agree I'd like more information, I'm seeking Investigation > Combat as I've tons of games that handle combat with a far greater focus and detail than MoM so I'm here for puzzles and investigation, plus a side dish of combat.

It's almost impossible to know, what sort of thing your going to expect or to what scenarios types are most popular and hence recieve a higher score in general.

In terms of investigators I'd assume it may depend on party size, the more players the more specialised you can have the investigators where as the less the more generalised they need to be. Abilities anything that's going to provide a buff almost every round, I'd also be wary of the 5/9 9/5 split characters as a weakness to wounds or horror will hurt especially in the longer scenarios.. Specifics I can't give you but that's my general assessment going though the materials.

You can find information on Valkyrie here also, some of the scenarios explain the type of game in the description.

Ratings are 1-5 but if you want a direct comparison they 1-10 scores are in the "Score Statistics" tab in the Stats spreadsheet (second link in the other thread).

Interesting there are two Valkyrie scenarios that are rated higher than the top rated Official scenario, and some others that are rated very close behind.

I personally can't wait to try those scenarios out, need to work though the standard ones first.. I imagine the customs scenarios will be a little more like marmite and overall more specific in contents where as the FFG ones will be trying to target as wide an audience as possible, as such I'll be working my way though `lots of those scenarios to find those that are specific to my taste (I'll provide feedback as well). Just need more time to play games, its hard with a 3 year old.

Yeah I've wanted to try out the Valkyrie system some but havent because A. Not sure how to make it work? And B. Still havent played more than a couple scenarios

Its pretty easy to run, just download the Exe. install, then with steam open run the import and then add all the products you have like you would with the app.. When you chose a scenario simply download and play...

I've not played any scenarios using it but I took a look and imported all the relevant data across. It doesnt use tiles from the Serpent expansion yet, but I'm sure that's in progress but otherwise, everything is there and it even has an option for the conversion kit.

Both of the two top ranking Valkyrie scenarios are written by James and both are very accessible.

The third ranking scenario is Arkham Crime Wave and is more marmite. It is a murder mystery. I played it recently with my niece and her boyfriend. They had never played mansions before. Her boyfriend is not a gamer and had not played anything more complex than the board game clue\cluedo. They both thought the chain of deduction to solve the murder fairly trivial. Which is ironic because a surprising number of experienced mansions players regard it as impossible to win! Maybe the issue is some mansions players are not expecting to have to use a lot of deduction. A number of official scenarios involve wandering around aimlessly looking for the clue that solves the mystery. In any case if you are brave enough to try it out, you have been warned! :)

I'm looking forwards to it and in the Dark you also wrote, my partner is really into the whole genre though shes not a gamer, literally dipped her toe in for the first time last week when we got half way though the first standard scenario, before we had to collect our daughter from nursery, looking forwards to finishing it next week and will see how she feels, she def likes it thus far however but understanding actions and abilities is taking her attention more than what's going on at the moment, but the reason I chose MoM beyond the theme was because its very simple so I'm sure she'll have the mechanics in the background in no time at all.

I'd recommend you play Stress and Strain as it is a solid and straightforward but engaging take on Resident Evil.
