Comms Technician Loadout

By Fyeya, in Rules

So, normally when you add a figure to a unit, it shares the stats/weapons of the unit. However, I can't seem to find any rules for the comm technician getting added in - would he share the same defense die+weapon of whatever unit you put him in, or would he just add the comm upgrade?

It feels like, since he isn't a noncombatant, that he should have a weapon, but I can't imagine they want players to be able to take a 10pt upgrade and get full death trooper stats.

Is there a rule I've missed that would define what the comm officer can/can't do?

Two things

First it dors not cost 10 pts.

It costs 10 pints plus the mandatory comm upgrade, so mininum 15 points

Second you can only add it to core troops for the time being.

Anyway it becomes just another member ofvthe ynit, so same weapon (s) and same defense die

It's a Personnel upgrade. Deathtroopers do not have that slot.

The same rules for adding a model apply regardless of what that model IS, so long as the upgrade that added the model doesn't have some special rule that contradicts the basic rules, like Non-Combatant.

As mentioned above, keep in mind that a Comms Technician has the additional requirement of taking a Comms upgrade, so there is an additional cost to adding the miniature than just the points printed on the card. And the Comms Technician is a Personal upgrade, which only Corps units can take at this time, so there isn't that much of a discount on the Comms upgrade, even for Shoretroopers, you only have a 3 point "discount" on the Comms upgrade you are obligated to add (which is the difference in points between adding a Shoretrooper personnel upgrade, or the Comms Tech). That still means the Comms Tech is at least 2 points more than just adding an extra body.
