Some questions came up during our play but cant find answers

By Inyeol, in General Discussion

Hello.

I have some questions raised amomg our group of players during last game we played and couldnt come to agreement or come up with clear explanations.

1. Regarding Zoey's personal story reward and walking the ley lines task component

Reward of her personal story allows her to put one token of any type on a task unqiue asset.

So if zoey decides to place a gate token on the asset where does she get it from? Gate stack or discarded pile?

2. Hypnos's dreamwalker mystery asks investigators to pay two sanity to access unique encounter. How do moxie cards work with the mystery.

3. Hypnos doesnt allow investogators to heal both health and sanity. How does this work with healing words or meditation on rest

Thanks in advance

Gate stack.

They don't. Moxie prevents loss of sanity. Dreamwalker asks you to spend Sanity and spending isn't losing.
Compare, for example, True Magick , which works both for spending and losing.

Healing Words change how much you recover through Rest and are affected by Hypnos.
As for Meditation , the case is more complex. With it's wording it is unaffected by Hypnos. But it was released in MoN which I know for inconsistent wording.
So the intent could be that it's also affected by Hypnos. That would be consistent with other cards and in line with the Grim Rule ( "When in doubt choose the interpretation that's worse for the players" ) so this might be a smarter choice.
You could try and ask FFG directly about the Hypnos/Meditation interaction but as the game's main designer no longer works for them, and Eldritch Horror is no longer developed, I have a fair amount of doubt about kosherness of an answer you might get.

Thank you so much for your reply.

It's so great to know the decisions made during the game play are actually in line with your replies, except people were allowed to recover sanity via meditation.

I wasn't too sure if it was inconsistency in wording, or they actually wanted to make it usable in the hypnos case. We went with the latter, and I think I will take the wordings as is for now and allow players to heal sanity if they have meditation.

Man it was so difficult to convince people that moxie wouldn't work with dreamwalker because spending isn't exactly losing. I had to go through a lengthy discussion the moment this mystery came up, it's so relieving to know I am not wrong :D

Thank you so much again :D have a nice day.

And that's what the problem is about.
I know for sure that some MoN cards have inconsistent wording.
I'm pretty certain not all of them.
When a card like Meditation appears I have no good way to discern to which of the two groups does it belong.

I have great memory for games and rules. This was very useful with Eldritch Horror. For four years I could solve about 99% of rule dilemmas almost instantly. Then MoN came out and suddenly I don't know anything.
This is extremely frustrating for me as I was very stoked for this expansion.

I am sorry for the rant. I was a fan of this game before it was published and MoN kinda broke my heart.
