Organizing Warhammer

By RoBro, in WFRP Gamemasters

How do all of the other GMs organize all the pieces and cards for this game?

I have been searching for a storage unit for all the parts but have had no luck at all, I want a small plastic box with numerous drawers and a lid. The only I can find are used to store big things. Nothing for little bits. I did finally find something I wanted in a video but have no idea what its called or where to get it. I will link it below, and it would be very very helpful if someone could tell me what it is or where I can get one. I am major OCD and need to get my games organized fast.

Well my copy and paste just broke so I will try to type out the whole address.

If that doesn't work then the name of the youtube video is:

I made several walls in box, using cardboard. On the left side I keep small cards, separated with library-like markers out of cardboard with tab on which type of card is written. On the opposite side I keep large cards, while in the middle I stock monsers markers, counters, dice. Character sgheets, career sheet and other are sealed inside save-boxes. For now I mixed base box with an adventurer's toolkit and have enught space for GM's Toolkit as well. Even, though I put cards into sleeves, which doubles required space. I can make a photo and show it, if you are interrested.

You may want something like a fishing tacklebox. They make them pretty big with all kinds of drawers, etc. Check out The Sports Authority here:

I don't know where you live, but The Container Store near me has a box very much like that. I don't see it on their website, unfortunately, but if you have one nearby, you might check it out. If not, try your local Michael's or other craft store; often they'll have similar containers designed for art supplies.

1. For the small cards (Talents, Wounds, etc.), I use the boxes of the Clear Sleeves sold by Fantasy Flight. I use plastic separators to separate different types of cards. These boxes fit in very well in the Core Box (they leave just enough space on top to store 4-5 books, so my advice is to use two of them (anyway, once you buy a couple of the expansions, you'll need two). They are also very useful when you need to do random draws (for Wounds, Insanities, Miscasts, etc.)

2. For the big cards (Action cards, Locations, Items, etc.) I use an Ultra Pro Collector's Album (the ones used by Magic the Gathering players).

Hopefully, FFG will think something up and provide us in the future with good plastic storage boxes for the cards (my suggestion to them is to do something like the boxes in which they sell their 10-package protective sleeves.

I just decided to shot a couple pictures to show how I organized it all:

(well, I don't know exactly why, but I cannot manage to upload the Images, although I have them in a Picasa Web Album and each of them is 55K. I'll post the URLs instead... if I manage to learn how to post the image, I'll do it).

1. This is the Core Box with all components in (I have all expansions up to Winds of Magic).

The hourglass I use during Encounter Mode. At the beginning of each turn, I give my players two minutes to decide how to act, then they won't have more time to discuss until the following turn. The teddy bear is a USB stick I carry around in case I need to use our games' club laptop for quick consultation, MapTool gaming, etc.

The NPC and Monster standups are not in the core box. We use miniatures in our club and I store the standups in the box of miniatures.

As you can see, on top of the boxes, there is space for 4-5 of the booklets.

2. This picture shows one of the boxes. This one I use to carry all cards that need to be randomly drawn, so the backs of the cards is always towards the opening of the box. You can also see some black pieces of plastic. I obtained them from plastic toolboxes (the ones used to carry screws, nails, etc.). They are also very convenient for storing miniatures and the standups.

3. This is the collector's album I use to store the action cards. I was no longer using it so this one turned out cheap, but I guess its cost nowadays is not too big.

4. Some location cards. I use colored cardboard tabs (at the right side of the picture) to quickly access the different types of cards:

5. And the collector's album in an open position, showing some item and action cards (I removed the tab separation to take this picture):

I sleeve the wound, madness etc. cards and keep them in a clear business card holder rack - that allows having all the ones normally needed standing up on table during play not taking too much space.

I use a 4 drawer organizer (also from local business supply store) to store other items, using the top and bottom of adventurer kit as "mini trays" inside those to hold various things.

So, all the unused action, talent etc. cards go in top drawer to be taken out for advance decisions; location and item cards, party sheets go in 2nd drawer, down to the bottom drawer than has unused sleeves and other "spare materials".

I purchased a stackable-interlocked set of round clear plastic trays to hold counters (I use stone-tokens for several things and chits mostly only for recharge tracking) - so for play the trays are unlocked and set around table for use and then packed up again between sessions (they are cheap and easy to find in a knitting/crafts supply store or dollar store section for such as they are intended to hold needles, bobbins and such).

I also used stand up displayers from business supply store to put some things like a Stromdorf card up for display to everyone (these are the clear plastic stands that you put a piece of paper or cardboard into to have held vertical for display). These and the business card holders were a bit more expensive than the dollar store containers.

I use boxes (with smaller compartments inside), for all the tokens, and rubber bands for cards.

I also found great use for my "session box" I use the toolkit box to collect all the cards, tokens and standups needed for next session. It works briliantly, a simple solution to a complex problem. That way I hardly need to look through the deck of many cards, or search frantically arround for that cult leader standup, its all there in my "session box".

good gaming

Hi thats my video you watched..

Its actually my wife's art box from Hobby craft..Approx £15.00

Hope that helps...

My problem is not how to store the bits AFTER play, rather how to organize them DURING the game.

The table is full of bits and stuff. On one edge is my place with the GM screen, hiding my notes and a lot of small-card packs (miscasts, wounds). Besides the screen is the progress tracker bits. All around the edges are the character sheets and action cards. This takes a lot of space. In the middle of the table is usually the location cards and stand up figures. The problem is that there are a lot of dice to be rolled, and the place is already cluttered up. And I forgot to mention all the rulebooks [actually 2 most of the time are needed], plus cheat sheets and scrap paper.
