The rules insert for the rebel vetrans says you can place them at range one to two but the rules reference states that its speed one from unit leader of veterans i assume the rules reference takes priority as correct?

Yes.

Are you still restricted by deployment zone or is it anywhere within range 1?

Anywhere in range 1. Go ahead and put Recon Intel on your Vets for maximum shenanigans.

Whoops, yeah, I meant a speed-1 move. That's a pretty significant difference.

The rule is text on the cards is reminder text and if contradicted by the RRG, the RRG is the actual rule. I believe that's in the RRG?

He's talking about the rules on the insert that comes in the box.

Either way, RRG trumps it.

Yep.

Just so everyone is on the same page of understanding.

Originally I think the question's source came from the Golden Rules from how it was worded based on my opinion. Maybe was talking about the 2nd bullet.

Quote

THE GOLDEN RULES page 4 of RR 1.5.0 & 1.5.1

The golden rules are fundamental concepts on which all other rules are built.

• If something in this reference contradicts the Learn to Play booklet, the Rules Reference takes precedence.
If an effect on a card or another component contradicts rules found in the Learn to Play booklet or Rules Reference, that component takes precedence.
• If a card effect uses the word “cannot,” that effect is absolute and cannot be overridden by other game effects

However...

Reminder text also on page 4 of RR 1.5.0 & 1.5.1 says...

Quote

Any italicized parenthetical text on cards is reminder text. Reminder text is not an exhaustive description of the rules for a keyword. Rather, it is there to help players remember how and when to resolve each keyword. If a player has questions about how a keyword works, that player should refer to that keyword’s glossary entry.

The Golden Rule does not apply to reminder text , as reminder text is not considered to be card text.

Given typos, misprints, errata, etc etc., the Rules Reference is the most up to date and accurate source of all information about star wars legion.

It's also worth noting that only italicized text is considered "reminder text". Any other text on a card would overrule the RRG.
