Question on deck building/card rarity

By ravenwolf64, in Living Card Games

Gurus,

I am interested in trying out the LCG from FFGames. I play many CCG; Magic, WoW, Vs., etc. Can someone explain the deck customizing with the expansion packs that come out for Game of Thrones, Warhammer, and/or Cthulhu? If I purchase an expansion pack that has the 20 new cards will I be set to enhance my core set deck? Or will I need to purchase multiple of the same expansion pack. For example if there is a 3 card limit and the expansion comes with 3 cards I am set. But if I can have 6 of one card in my deck then I would need to purchase two of the same exansions to get the 6 cards?

I hope this makes sense :) Thank you in advance!

Peace

Well, unless you are getting expansions from the newest Call of Cthulhu expansion, you will likely want to buy 2 or 3 of each pack. Here's why:

When the LCGs first came out, they were packaged in a way where, for $10, you would get a 40 card pack. 10 cards in the pack would come with 3 copies of each (a playset in LCG) and 10 cards would come with 1 copy each. So, if you wanted a full playset of all the "rare" cards, you'd have to buy three packs.

About 5 months back, FFG announced that they would switch the collation ratio in their packs to 60 cards per pack, 3 copies of each card, and sell for $15. This change would occur with the next cycle of packs for each set. Call of Cthulhu has just started this new cycle, and Warhammer will in two months (this month's release, Arcane Fire, is the last W:I pack with the old collation). Game of Thrones has 2 more packs to go before the switch over.

This only applies to the monthly packs, however. The CoC Core Set contains 160 different cards, at one copy of each. Game of Thrones and Warhammer each come with 4 faction/house decks, and there are some cards that have multiple copies, but not all (and more x1 cards in the GoT set than in Warhammer, iirc). Both W:I and GoT have released expansions for the other two houses/factions in the game lines. The W:I one comes with two decks, one for each faction, and collated like the core set. For GoT. the House Greyjoy came with 60 x1 cards only, while the Martell expansion comes with 60 different cards, but 2 copies of each.

Wow! That was the exact answer I needed! Thank you soooo much!
