Way too complicated

By Will44, in Rules

I’ve played only a handful of times at this point. My friends and i constantly screw up rules or can’t figure them out. The rule books are poorly laid out. This game is really frustrating.

where are the force power rules?

who counts as troops for objectives?

It would be more helpful to know what about Force powers you're having trouble with. There aren't inherent rules about Force upgrades. Same as other upgrades, the unit has to have a Force upgrade slot to be equipped with one.

Also, all units are identified by type on their cards. A trooper unit will say "Trooper" under the art in the top right corner.

I'm sorry to hear you having troubles with the rules I can understand how having all the rules in alphabetical order can be a bind please tell us what order would make more sense to you?

Force powers I'm assuming your talking about the force upgrade cards that have iconography to show if they are a free action, normal action or say how the persistent ability applies?

Troopers hmm apart from where it says trooper on the unit card I suppose that can be confusing, lets ask FFG to mark the cards if its a trooper?.... oh yeh they already do.

FFG does try to idiot proof the rules as much as possible hence some of the laughable FAQ's we see but really the answers to most questions are in the rules reference or on the cards.

Excuse me, why are you being cruel and rude while my friend and I Struggle to decipher this game?

i reported your post

First thing: instead of the rulebook that's inside the box, read the rules reference available from ffg site. There the rules are explained more deeply.

Second, forget any other miniature game you have played.

Third simply do what you are told and not wharmt you think should be done.

Also, the fact that you ask how force powers work, tells us that you have not read the rules. Because they don't "work". They are simple upgrades available only to force users. And their card clearly says what ability they confer.

Rules are indeed very simple.

I had no idea this community was so snide and rude

Sorry for any responses that were rude. I hope my reply at least was informative.

The RRG can be found on the FFG site, under Support > Rules > "Rules Reference." It is the document you should always refer to, when playing beyond a "learn to play" game with the core set. They update it regularly with new clarifications and abilities. It is ordered alphabetically, mostly.

In the future, it will be more helpful to be as specific as possible when you have questions about a particular rule or interaction.

Hope this doesn't turn you off from the game and the community!

First, ignore the rude commenters - they’re not trying to be helpful, just condescending.

If you haven’t looked at the Rules Reference Guide, you absolutely must. I found that the learning game just did not give me the information needed to play the game.

It’s going to take some time to get all the rules down since there are so many little intricacies. Most of the time, I find the rules to be logical and thematic, but sometimes you just need to go with what the rulebook says in order to maintain fairness. If you think you found a loophole, you probably haven’t - there aren’t any broken mechanics that I’ve noticed so far.

One thing that would be helpful in your post is to ask a specific question regarding force powers. You aren’t going to find someone on the forum to retype things from the RRG, so check that first then come here for clarification.

You got one reply that was a bit rude while still answering your questions, the questions that you asked in an obnoxious and obtuse manner. Just stop.

Thank you for the kind response, but the majority have been trolls. I’m done with the community

I think most of your questions have been answered, but on the off hand chance you still read this, I'll echo the informative parts of what has been stated already: print off a copy of the newst RRG. The "rule book" included in the core set is worthless, and honestly isn't worth the paper its printed on these days. The full RRG should answer any questions you may have, and it's laid out in the probably the most helpful manner you will find.
