Imperial Speeder Bike Movement

By JarJarBot, in Rules

Hey everyone! Just played a game tonight using speeder bikes, haven't used them in a while and had a question. My opponent was very persistent that when I moved my speeder bikes not only do their firing arcs face the same way but they had to be perfectly side by side. No offset, not in a line or anything the had to be side by side at the end of each movement or I could complete the movement and would have to try to move somewhere else.

I thought as long as the firing arcs were facing the same direction all was good. Any help is appreciated!

Page 43 of the Rules Reference says: "When a notched base mini is placed in cohesion, its base must be oriented in the exact same direction as the unit leader’s base." So it says nothing about them having to be placed directly side by side, they follow all the other rules of cohesion.

They don't have to be side by side. This is one of the things that makes it so annoying to fight them, because most times one of the models will be in cover because of that.

The space you can put the second bike in often allows you to make sure you either get both front arcs on the same target or lets you position one guy to take the two black die shot at a different target.

I have a question of speeder bikes.. as there are two models, can they fire at different targets?

Yes, but they have to use different weapons. Every shot from a particular weapon from a unit has to be against the same target.

Declare Additional Defender: If there are any weapons remaining that have not been added to the attack pool, the player may repeat steps 1–2, forming a separate attack pool with the new weapons. RR, p. 15.

You can't shoot multiple units with the same weapon. This means as soon as you attack one unit with a weapon you can't use the same weapon again to split the attack pool and attack another unit.

But since the Bikes have two weapons you can use the main weapon on one mini to attack unit A and use the blaster on the other mini to attack unit B if they are eligible targets.

Thanks, I figured that was the case.

I’m trying to figure out how to make the generic •• Pinned Down command card work.

New question, if I perform a recover action with a unit does it get a second action or no?

Thanks again

The number of actions you get is set in stone immediately after the rally step. So gaining or losing suppression after that doesn’t add or take away from your action count.

Alright, thanks for the info everyone!

Do you mean in general or when your unit is supressed after its rally?

Either or, I just wanted to make sure how it worked as an action whether I was surpressed or not.

If your unit is supressed after the rally step it still only has one action even if you recover. Nashjaee stated that correctly. But if you aren't supressed or if you could recover with a command card (veers, sabine) you still have your normal 2 actions and recover is only one of them. In that case you can do another action after the recover action.

This also means that if you get supression tokens during your activations (i.e. by command cards like palp's or jyn's cards or by a charge detonation) you don't loose an action because of that.

Here's another question; I've only gone into melee with Vader which is straight forward this question is about unit cohesion and melee. If I move my unit if Royal guards towards a rebel trooper unit and my unit leader falls short of base contact with them can I use cohesion to have another figure in my unit make contact with the rebels to start a melee?

No, to start a melee you have to move the unit leader into base contact, it's under Melee in the RRG (page 41):

To start a melee, a player must follow these steps in order:
1. Move Unit Leader: The player performs a move, moving their unit leader into base contact with an enemy mini.
