Going to Time

By Ascarel, in L5R LCG: Rules Discussion

The tournament regulation document says the following (my emphasis, original document here 😞

Quote

When the round time reaches 65 minutes, the organizer should announce the end of the round. Players can no longer start a new dynasty phase, and the following procedure begins:

◊ When the round time reaches 65 minutes, each player has an opportunity to concede to their opponent. If neither player concedes, then they continue playing until they reach the end of the next regroup phase or until the round time reaches 75 minutes, whichever comes first.

◊ When the round time reaches 70 minutes, the organizer announces the last chance for players to turn in their match slips. If players turn in their match slip after this time, the player who lost will receive a modified loss instead .

◊ When the round time reaches 75 minutes, all gameplay immediately ends. Any players who still have not finished their game do not continue any further, and instead must follow the procedure listed under the “Emperor’s Judgment” below. The player who wins will receive a modified win instead .

This seems to imply that after 70min, the winner gets 10 points, the loser gets 0. After 75, the winner gets 6, the loser gets 1. This entails that there is no case when both players have the modified win condition.

That document is from last October, but I think we haven't ever played like that locally. We're behind the times I guess?!

After 70 minutes a loss is a modified loss - " If players turn in their match slip after this time" . This is true whether they lose 'naturally' or lose because 75 minutes was reached a tiebreakers were used.

Oh, ok, so these conditions are "additive". Therefore, any concession after 65 minutes means 0 pt for the loser at all times, while the winner has to win before getting to the tie break in order to get the full 10 pts. Is that it?

The times are effectively a threshold.

From 65 minutes, no new turn can be started. If the game reaches the end of the regroup phase, instead use Tiebreakers to determine the winner, awarding 10 for a win, 1 for a loss (unless modified as below).

From 70 minutes, a loss (for any reason) is now a modified loss worth 0 points.

At 75 minutes, a win is now a modified win worth 6 points. The players must stop playing, and use Tiebreakers to determine the winner.

If the game ends before the 70 minute mark, it's 10-1, even if using Tiebreakers. If it ends between 70 and 75 it is 10-0, even if using Tiebreakers. If it ends at 75 minutes it is 6-0.
