Jawas, Ewoks, Lasat and Tusken Raiders. Other than that it's mostly a book for GMs.

That depends on whether or not your GM lets you hire (or otherwise accumulate) NPC followers. There's often no reason PCs couldn't pad the group with NPCs for certain missions, whether they are Rebel troops, Hutt legbreakers on loan, or even a few named NPCs for special purposes.

I've also allowed players to roll for NPCs in certain scenes (mainly combat) so them having the book to hand isn't too bad an idea.
