Leaving you
on a TN1 check, that's success with two bonus success, increasing the TN to hit you by 2.
Kenshin pulls on his mount's reins, trying to evade the path of the charge.
The boar picks up speed as it approaches, hunching in behind its brutal tusks.
Wounded boar remains in Fire Stance, moves to range 2 and performs a guard action.
Wounded Boar (Fire 3, Martial 1) performs TN2 Tactics Check (TN1 +1 for Lightly Wounded)
Rolls 3 ring dice: Blank , Blank,
Rolls 1 Skill die:
Keeps 2 dice: ,
Resolves Explosive Success: Blank
Resolves Strife: , 1 Fatigue from Bleeding (3/9 Endurance)
Resolves Success/Failure: - Success, TN+1 for attack and scheme actions targeting the boar
hey everyone, i’m wondering if anyone knows of any where i could play more 5e pbp?
Hekasu grimaces, well... this should be great. What I wouldn't give for a bow would be a very short list.
Completely at a loss on how to fight on horseback, Hekasu steels himself to die for no good reason. The pain in his shoulder flares, reminding him just how bad of an idea this is. He dismounts, draws his sword, and sets his feet to receive a charge.
Set stance to Water. Movement action to dismount. Support action to prepare my katana in a two-handed grip.
If I wouldn't lose a chuck of honor for retreating, I'd do that instead. He's got a duty to do that dying against an animal doesn't serve in any way, shape, or form, but "fleeing to save yourself" is an honor hit I just can't afford.[/quote]
(( with the boar at range 2, Aruzhan should be able to use grasp of earth. I have 2 earth and 2 theology, and roll one exploding success with strife and one blank on the ring dice. Each of the skill dice rolls an opportunity, so I end up keeping the exploding success (which yields a blank) and one of the opportunities. Fortunately, I should only need one success thanks to my meishodo talisman. I’ll use my opportunity for the grasp of earth ability to immobilize my target. I would do 2 supernatural damage and the boar needs to make a fitness test or be knocked prone.))
Aruzhan halts her steed as she slips one hand into the sash around her waist. Clutching her newly crafted talisman she utters a soft, but stern command to the spirit inside. A thunderous crack issues from the talisman and reverberates through the wooded scene. Then another crack, as if in response, sounds out from beneath the wounded boar as the ground under it’s feet begins to split open and cave in around the animal. Aruzhan wonders for a moment if the others sensed her hubris and joy as she commanded the spirit to do her bidding, but she soon reasoned that they were busy with their own thoughts.. and whether she meekly petitioned the spirits or commanded them is of little matter when the cause is just... right?
Snarling and thrashing, the boar tries to force its way clear. It rips its shoulder muscles, sending a fresh tide of blood down its flank as - to Aruzhan's shock - it tears free, chunks of rock and clay spattering against its lower legs and along the road. Blood drops spatter onto the white chalk, and the beast's guard droops somewhat.
Wounded Boar makes a TN5 (TN4+1 for lightly wounded) Fitness check, using Sieze the moment
Rolls three ring dice: , Blank,
Rolls two skill die: ,
Keeps four dice: , , ,
Resolves explosive success:
Resolves Strife: - 2 Fatigue from Bleeding (5/9 Endurance), boar is now at 4/4 composure and is compromised
Resolve Opportunity: - Aruzhan suffers two strife
Resolve success/failure: - TN5 - success with two bonus successes ( in fire stance), Wounded Boar is not knocked prone or immobilized
Wounded Boar suffers 2 supernatual damage (7/9 Endurance)
Wounded Boar unmasks - Expose an Opening - reduce the TN of the next check targeting the boar by 1. Strife reduced to 0/4 composure.
Yoshi finally gets his act together and manages to get his bow out, and ready. With one breath in and out, he's knocking an arrow and looking down its shaft towards the boar.
"Someone keep half an eye out on the trail eh? It wasn't us who first shot this beast..."
::In air stance. I take a support action and prepare an item. Can I also use my movement to get off the horse? We're supposed to bring them safely to the festival to be sold. I want to keep my body between it and the boar of possible.::
Edited by Void CraneIrritatingly, the rules don't actually say anything about mounting or dismounting in structured time, but since it's more involved than moving back or forwards - you'd have to actively think to do so - I'm going to say no. I think requiring a move action to get off the horse seems fair.
Nothing stops you guiding Sanko one range band further away from the boar, though (putting you back at range 3). Unlike Hekasu, who's facing it with a sword, you have a ranged weapon ready, and 'falling back to get a better shot with your bow' isn't really 'running away' in a dishonourable sense.
That's back to the top, so it's @Von3679 's turn.
: :I don't know that backing away really makes at the moment ... and it is potentially a bad habit for a samurai to ever start. I'll stay put and see what happens next turn.::
One thing I noticed checking over old posts, and one thing
@Hida Jitenno pointed out:On 8/16/2019 at 1:36 PM, Von3679 said:rolled fire tactics.
If you use your fire ring (i.e. Fire stance), your guard action was your turn's action, so you can't have simultaneously done a prepare action and drawn your sword. That's going to limit you to water stance (and hence your water ring) this turn instead; you need to move up one range band and prepare your weapon and perform a strike action from within range 1.
On the plus side, whilst you're using your weaker ring, you are attacking a target that only needs TN1 to succeed with a strike action.
On 8/17/2019 at 8:55 AM, Magnus Grendel said:remove a , it happens at the resolve opportunities stage. That means it's gone before the resolve success/failure stage.
This was wrong. Spending
'refunds' the strife but
doesn't
remove the result, so it's still 'there' to get a bonus success. It doesn't affect the result of the check since you'd have needed a second bonus success, but worth noting for future reference.
ah ok. Srry, my mistake. So i can draw and strike in the same turn right?
Prepare is an action. So you can only do that in the same turn as any other action in Water Stance, which means you're forced to use your water ring for any checks that turn.
ah ok. My bad
Kenshin’s drew his blade as he stepped forward towards the boar, gripping it in a two-handed grip before swinging it down at the boar through a vertical slash.
i actually think the dice roller hates me. Rolled 2 ring 1 skill. All blank.
@Black_Rabbit_Inle , for meishodo talismans, does the kami bound inside it do the invocation for you? Or does it relay your message to the kami in the surroundings, so cajolin them to do the invocation?
Kenshin's swing goes wide, skittering along the boar's tusks but not striking home on the wound on its side. The boar snarls and rears with an awful tearing sound, smashing into Kenshin, knocking the ronin aside as it thunders past, blood now pouring freely from its shoulder.
Ouch. That's the equivalent of a triple natural '1', or 1/216. You don't really have a useful advantage to get rerolls; keen hearing isn't relevant at this point.
Wounded Boar moves to range 0 of Kenshin, remains in fire stance and performs strike action, targeting Kenshin. TN3 (2+1 for lightly wounded) Martial Arts (Melee) Fire check:
Rolls three ring dice: , ,
Rolls one skill die:
Keeps three dice: , ,
Resolves explosive success: , ,
Resolves Strife: - Wounded Boar is at 5/4 Composure and Compromised (again!). Wounded boar receives 5 strife from Bleeding and is Incapacitated. Note that Sustaining Fury means it can still perform Attack actions and cannot be rendered Unconcious.
Resolve Opportunity: - Any character targeting Wounded Boar with attack or scheme actions receives 2 strife
Resolve success/failure: - TN3, success with 6 bonus successes ( from fire stance). Kenshin takes 13 damage.
Assuming you wish to defend (the tusks of an Enraged boar are deadliness 9!) Concealed Armour (resistance 2) will require you to suffer 11 fatigue, which given your low Earth ring I suspect incapacitates you.
oh gosh HAHA. I hv endurance 8... so... i’ll be incapacitated by 3 lol. Save me!
The blow knocks Kenshin right off his feet, causing him to tumble to the ground, groaning as he did so.
If it makes you feel any better, it has hurt itself very badly in the process of resisting Aruzhan's invocation and even worse in the process of knocking you into the dirt. Just be glad the Boar just hit you on the way past rather than spend on a critical strike, and is (a) wounded and (b) not full-grown!

((How meishodo works is not known in the empire. Remember that it’s a technique that was developed outside the empire, where the kami do not dwell and there’s no evidence that spirits from outside the empire communicate with kami any better than gaijin communicate with rokugani. So it seems likely to me that the spirit within the talisman creates the effect directly, but ultimately the GM should have some say as well.))
Watching the boar tear its way free from the earth prison and then slam into Kenshin sending him flying, Hekasu's mouth presses into a thin line. If this is to be the moment of my death, then so be it.
He keeps his mind on an evasive stance, but closes to swinging range. With a fierce kiai , he lunges, driving his sword home.
Set stance: Air. Move 1 range band before action. Strike Water 3/Melee 1:
, (b), (b), . Keeping the first three.Resolve explosions: , . Keeping both.
Resolve strife: 7/8
Resolve opportunity: Critical hit.
Resolve success: 3 v TN2 (Boar's in Fire, if I remember correctly?). Success +1. Katana in double-handed grip is severity 7, +1 for bonus success. Should be a Permanent Injury, pending his Fitness check).

- The Wounded Boar is in Fire Stance.
- Are you in Water or Air? Because if in Water stance you're suffering the Wounded condition and the strike is TN3.
- Did you include the two extra strife gained for performing an attack or scheme targeting the Boar?
- Bonus successes on a strike action do not increase the severity of a critical strike if the strike is not defended.
- You might want to keep the rather than for this reason.
- can increase the severity of the critical strike via Razor-Edged if you want to to spend them that way.
- The Wounded Boar is Enraged , meaning it increases the severity of critical strikes both caused and suffered by 2
- You do not need to spend to inflict a critical strike on an incapacitated target (doing so will let you inflict two lower severity criticals instead of one more lethal one)
- If you succeed at the strike action, then spend increasing the deadliness, plus the increase of severity of two for Enraged, you'll be causing a severity 12 critical prior to the Wounded Boar's fitness roll...
Sorry, I have Air 3 also, so I meant the Air/Melee. And I forgot the 2 bonus strife, which puts me at 9/8 and compromised. So we'll do that with the Opps.

Ito Sora's armourer, Hekasu notes, clearly knows his trade as well as one would expect from a Crane artisan. Backed by a ferocious blow, his blade slices cleanly through one of the boar's tusks and on into the boar itself, shearing through muscles and blood vessels on its face, neck and shoulder in a welter of fresh blood...
Wounded Boar performs TN2 (1 + 1 for lightly wounded) Fitness (Fire) check to resist severity 12 critical strike:
Rolls three ring dice: , ,
Rolls one skill die:
Rerolls for Shattering Parry
Rolls three ring dice: , ,
Rolls one skill die:
Keeps no dice - Compromised characters cannot keep results including
Resolves explosive success: None
Resolve success/failure: TN2 - Failure with a shortfall of two. Wounded Boar suffers a Severity 12 Critical Strike.
Agonizing Death - Wounded Boar suffers Dying (3) and Severely Wounded (Fire)
Wounded Boar's Tusks become Damaged .
Nice fight against the boar!
