Half the lists at worlds - Specter cell. Disgusting.

By Kalandros, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Has anyone played the Spectre group without the SC card? How does it compare to other non-SC groups?

I'm suspect that the group is pretty tough and might be OP even without SC. Considering they were made to fit in a standard 40pt deployment there's likely to be some compromises there that break the system regardless.

Whatever FFG decides to do with IA going forward is their decision. What we decide to do with IA is ours.

Stay tuned. :)

No, it's not OP. Sabine, Hera and Chopper are great even without the SC upgrade. Kanan, Ezra and Zeb are *slightly* below top tier. As the have little synergy on their keywords (=> Command Deck), I wouldn't expect to see that team again, if the SC upgrade gets banned.

Kannan, Ezra and Zeb need that +1 damage otherwise they're not worth the price.

If anyone cares for my 2 cents, I suspect that the truth lies closest to option 3.

I don't think the game is entirely dead, and for the most part the deals with other companies aren't as "be all, end all" as some people on this forum claim.

Most likely, they have re-allocated more resources to the new kid on the block, and are pushing it hard (makes sense, to promote a new product right?)

Those devs who are most involved with IA probably have been told to keep quiet to a) avoid arguments with us on the forums and b) not spoil IA or take shine off Legion.

As to the lack of communication with the playerbase; Basically, the internet sucks. Because it's a bad place where people say bad things, it's better to not stick your head in and make it worse.

I know that sounds stupid, but face to face relations are completely different from how you communicate on forums/twitter etc. That's the simplicity of it.

Crazy as it sounds, they appear to prefer disgruntled Forum topics and threats to quit the game over getting involved and having a small minority of trolls and aggressives whoe ruin it for most of us who can manage a civilised discourse online.

TL:DR : The internet a bad place & FFG don't want none of it. Plus Legion is the new baby getting all the attention, and IA is the older sibling feeling neglected.

What he said. Yes, this has been my feeling all along. I'm not an amazing poker player, but Todd's poker face was not stellar. Something is coming. I'm even thinking a fix for Boba, based on the way he "looked at his cards" when I "raised" the question. Then FFG putting an ewok on a map? Why do that? So far, ONLY characters in the game are on the maps. And I know ya ya, it's Endor. So what? Something is coming.

Whether we go beyond this year, who cares. Something is coming.

I disagree, they do stick their head out, they just do a bad job of it. They had a post on twitter asking people about their favourite parts of IA, or something along those lines, people sounded off on how upset they were about the current OP situation, FFG replied with "ya we get that but we aren't talking about that now, reply how we want you to." which just pissed people off further.

So there isn't just a total lack of communication, there is just horrible communication all across the board.

In fairness to their OP (Organized Play) team, they had a big shakeup around Christmas time and their OP communication has actually been quite a bit better since then. I don't necessarily love everything that they've said (e.g. limiting worlds to just regional winners is dumb in my opinion) but at least they've been a lot more communicative and they seem to be putting in the effort.

Unfortunately, OP can only do so much when there's exactly zero information coming from the development side. You can do all the prize kits and tournament structure changes that you want, but if they're not going to release anything else (or at least tell us whether they will be releasing anything else) it's not going to get them very far.

Oof, I remember that.

That was rough.

I don't really get into Skirmish that much (time permitting - being an adult and all), so the Campaign and App is what I (90%) do.

I have an IA Skirmish appointment this weekend (appointment sounds so much better than playdate when you're over 40), and I'm pretty sure it's going to be a super-meta list I'm against. I was looking at some options, and I thought of the following against what is probably a Spectre Cell list:

  • Bossk's boyz
  • Bossk
  • Elite Trand.
  • reg Trand
  • Elite Nexu
  • Reg Nexu
  • Under Duress
  • Beast Tamer
  • Explosive Armaments
  • Feeding frenzy

A command deck that causes affair bit of strain on the opponent like Dirty Trick, Toxic Dart, Out of time, that sort of thing (and of course Celebration). I still think it sounds like a fun enough list to play against anything else. (I really want to say "You've been Bossked!" - that's the real motivation for the list)

The other option I thought of was about 4 units of Stormtroopers with Blaise and Imperial officers, then go all out offensive, make each squad target one opponent at a time and hopefully win by a VP chase.

There will always be lists that break the game, and there will always be players that take full advantage of the rulsets to make sure they have maximum Gamesmanship result. Game developers need to stop trying to over buff the next thing to sell it and resist the temptation to over do revising rules to limit options.

I have everything IA can throw at me, and I use about half of it. I'm in.

As a 40k player, I remember the old Death Company super Jetpack bomb of death, they had stupid rules, they had stupid abilities, and so on; power players loved them, power players also loved the old Armoured Company setup also. You know we got over it and just played - sure I lost, but if I made them bleed for it, when you can get your opponent to get doubt in their mind, then it was still a victory.

Agreed. I find it funny how much of the non-CANON is actually in some of the games still like X-wing.

It's called "filler".

That's why you need to have Wookieepedia open in a browser tab while you unbox your ships, so you know if you're supposed to care or not that the "Thane" X-Wing pilot is actually Ya Boi Thane or just a series of consonants and vowels strung together to vaguely spell a name you can pronounce, maybe.

Thane Kyrell's name will not be besmirched here.

I don’t know, I think I’m cool with it 😂

Why is there no article about the worlds? Nothing about who won, what were the top lists, nothing ...

They’ve never done those sorts of articles.

Given they did that article on the lead-in to Worlds about one player's prep (sorry, can't remember off-hand who it was), you'd think a follow-up would make sense, though.

Why? It be two lines.

I brought a pre-built squad by FFG because everyone else was.

I lost the coin toss at the final table.

The weather was nice.

Ok, 3 lines.

I mean... if I’m thinking of the same article, wasn’t Dan Taylor ( @DTDanix )?

He was the defending three time champion. It’s a more interesting read than “Wow! Everyone loves this new Spectre Cell card! What a success!”

If memory serves, I think last year they did release a post-worlds article. If it wasn't the article, they at least put it up on their facebook page or something - I remember seeing bar graphs for the various list archetypes (30% IG scum, 25% vader, etc.) for both the field and the cut.

I doubt they'd do that this year, though, as those stats don't really reflect well on the state of the game.

I think I remember DT saying that his article that came out before Worlds was actually several months old. I'm not for sure why.

I think that does a disservice to Brett’s skill don’t you?
