Need help with a rules call--Doppelganger spell

By Llanwyre2, in WFRP Gamemasters

Hey, gang. One of my spellcasters has the doppelganger ability and has used it a couple of times quite cleverly. I'm curious, though, about what you think about a nuance: does the spell only mimic what the casting character would know about the copied target, or does the magic "get it right" no matter what? For instance, if the copied person had a tattoo that the spellcaster couldn't see, would the spell somehow duplicate it anyway?

I can't see any text on the card that would quite figure it out. I know that certain die rolls give the illusion a "fatal flaw," but what about a flaw that wouldn't be exposed immediately, and therefore isn't necessarily fatal? (Again, like the tattoo.)

It's a rank 1 spell, thus should be a bit underpowered. I would state it only replicates what caster can see or can imagine (knowing there is a Anchor tatoo isn't equal to knowing how it looks like happy.gif ). Also it doesn't say anything about the voice, just shape, so I would allow for only visual illusion, maybe extra sense for getting a Sigmar's Comet.

D.

I would say the spell most certainly does not get it right no matter what. The observation check to see through the disguise could easily be fluffed away by explaining it as someone noticing the anchor tattoo or what-ever is missing, so these kind of imperfections with the disguise could probably occur at any time

I would have the fatal flaw as something far more un-natural and disturbing (as it occurs as part of a chaos star), but it could be something that isn't immediately noticable if that someting you wanted to do....

It could be good to have the player not realise the fatal flaw has caused the tattoos on the disguised body to ripple as if alive until he takes his coat off and orders a drink in the, extremely busy, Inn!
